Peak Summer: A Road Trip Across the American West

Map by the Land of LA

1. Start in: Jackson Hole, WY

For wildlife lovers and extreme sports enthusiasts alike, there are few destinations as thrilling as Jackson Hole, Wyoming, famed gateway to the Grand Teton and Yellowstone national parks. During the summer, locals of all stripes cheer ropers and rodeo clowns at the season-long Jackson Hole Rodeo (which offers a special “Behind the Chutes” VIP experience); pack the lawns at classical concerts held during the Grand Teton Music Festival (through August 23); and drink Wyoming Whiskey at the famous Million Dollar Cowboy Bar

Boasting some of the best hiking, climbing, biking, rafting, and fly-fishing spots in the country, Jackson Hole is much more than a ski town. And the opportunities are endless. After 25 years in Jackson, legendary ski mountaineer Kit DesLauriers is still finding new mountains to summit in the Teton Range, where some of the tallest peaks rise above 12,000 feet. Says DesLauriers, “I think the Tetons are the most magnificent mountains in the lower 48—and they are right outside of town.”

EXPERIENCES

Dark Sky Heaven: Amateur astronomers will find the wide Wyoming skies an ideal way to explore the universe. Featuring some of the darkest skies in the lower 48, Teton County has become the first county in the world to be designated an International Dark Sky Community, and stargazers reap the rewards. A three-hour nighttime safari with Wyoming Stargazing in Grand Teton National Park features dinner and a show, where guests view star clusters, planets, and galaxies with the aid of powerful telescopes and learned experts. At the Snow King Observatory and Planetarium, visitors can get an even closer look at the cosmos through a state-of-the-art PlaneWave telescope.

Safari in the U.S.A.: At Four Seasons Resort and Residences Jackson Hole, which debuts its new restaurant Steadfire Chophouse this summer, guests can explore Yellowstone National Park on an all-day excursion created in partnership with Jackson Hole Wildlife Safaris and Yellowstone Safari Company. The “American Serengeti” experience begins with a private flight (for up to seven guests) into northern Yellowstone that soars over natural wonders like the Grand Prismatic hot spring and the Old Faithful geyser. Visitors encounter astonishing fauna, including Yellowstone’s bison herds, all while hiking through one of America’s extraordinary landscapes. “Two weeks ago, we had a moose at our office; then we had a raccoon that was fishing by the office the next day,” says Jackson Hole Wildlife Safaris owner Matt Scott. “I was in town yesterday and there were mule deer walking through. As far as wildlife goes, Jackson is in the middle of a very healthy ecosystem, and it’s just a part of life here.”

Bring It Home: an antler chandelier. The local firm Wild West Designs creates and sells the perfect statement pieces for any rustic retreat: chandeliers produced from elk antlers that the animals shed naturally.

2. Continue to: Vail, CO

Cool alpine breezes make summer an appealing time to explore this charming mountain enclave. Built to resemble a quaint town in the Alps, Vail Village offers an array of restaurants, such as Tavernetta Vail, at Four Seasons Resort and Residences Vail, and upscale stores, including Moncler for jackets, Davidor and Squash Blossom for jewelry, and Kemo Sabe for Western wear. In the warmer months, the famous ski destination beckons with horseback riding, wagon rides, and even llama hikes (they carry hikers’ packs).

This season, Four Seasons is launching Four Seasons Vail Adventures by Sage, a daylong experience with fly-fishing, rafting, a side-by-side ATV tour, and a gourmet lunch. The property is also making the Chalet (its ski-in, ski-out pavilion) a hub for activities such as wine tastings, cocktail pop-ups, art shows, and music.

On Sundays in the town center, the Vail Farmers’ Market and Art Show brings vendors and artisans together, while Hot Summer Nights at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater features musicians, dancers, and comedians. Even the gondolas can be a summer experience—rides give visitors a bird’s-eye view of the Rockies, with fields of wildflowers across the wide expanse.

EXPERIENCES

Endless Biking: Vail is a mountain biker’s dream, with 58 miles of paved recreational paths in Eagle County alone. A trip up Vail’s famous gondolas with a bike haul pass takes you to some of the most exhilarating high-elevation trails in Colorado, featuring breathtaking views of Gore Range. Those looking for a challenge flock to the Grand Traverse Mountain Trail, which twists and turns through fragrant pine forests and offers spectacular views of Mount of the Holy Cross. Looking for a downhill thrill? The Radio Flyer Mountain Trail descends 900 feet in elevation.

Four Seasons Resort Vail
Vail is heaven for mountain bikers.

Reel It In: Colorado’s rushing waters teem with brown trout, rainbow trout, brookies, and cutthroat. Vail Valley Anglers, the beloved fishing store in nearby Edwards, offers lessons, along with float, wade, and specialized fly-fishing trips led by seasoned guides along the Eagle, Colorado, and Roaring Fork rivers. Colorado Angling Company also offers customized fly-fishing tours from its base-camp cabin set up on a quarter-mile stretch of private trout stream in the Vail Valley. Anthony Mazza, a fly-fishing guide with the outfitter, says the joy—and the challenge—of the sport is “the change. It’s never the same. The same float on the same stretch of the same river can be completely different from one day to the next. We don’t speak fish, so you’ve got to figure it out every day.”

Bring It Home: a Golden Bear necklace. The Golden Bear jewelry store, open since 1975, is famous for its handcrafted necklaces with a unique bear emblem. “If you are a Vail local,” says a resident, “you have to have a Golden Bear necklace.”

3. End in: Santa Fe, NM

Magical Santa Fe has held both creatives (like painter Georgia O’Keeffe and author George R.R. Martin) and nature lovers in its thrall for centuries. A bastion of old-world charm and rich history, the city—founded in 1610—offers a profusion of lively restaurants and Southwestern art galleries (more than 250). Visitors can get into the spirit of Santa Fe at the beloved organic chocolatier Kakawa Chocolate House, known for its regionally inspired chocolate drinks, including mezcal and prickly pear. After a day of summertime fun, many flock to the acclaimed Santa Fe Opera, where the 2025 repertoire features such classics as La Bohème and The Marriage of Figaro. There are also endless ways to tune into the peace of the high desert, among them countless trails, like the trek to Picacho Peak, part of a 25-mile network of breathtaking biking and hiking routes in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. “You’ve gotta get out there and experience the outdoors, the fresh air, and the beautiful colours. That’s your stress relief,” says Hans Loehr, adventure program supervisor at Four Seasons Resort Rancho Encantado Santa Fe, which last year completed a full revitalization of its 65 suites and rooms. “You give us a few days, and you’ll recharge.”

“The experience is different because  the horses reflect back the exact present moment with each person.” —Kelly Wendorf, founder, The Equus Experience

EXPERIENCES

Equine Bonding: The powerful connection between horses and humans has been recognized for centuries. The Equus Experience is an innovative approach to personal knowledge and the development of leadership skills with the aid of our equine friends. No riding is involved; instead, participants interact with the horses to learn mindfulness, boundaries, and trust. “The experience is different because the horses reflect back the exact present moment with each person,” founder and CEO Kelly Wendorf, a personal development coach, has said of the two-hour and four-hour experiences of self-discovery.

White Water Thrills : Wild and scenic, the majestic Rio Grande is famous for its roaring rapids. Santa Fe’s Four Seasons offers white water rafting experiences tailored to every interest and skill level. The Racecourse, a four-mile series of Class II and Class III rapids, promises an exhilarating ride. The Rio Chama, a Rio Grande tributary, provides a more serene rafting experience, with stunning views of sandstone cliffs and open blue skies.

The English Beat: London Is the Place to Be for Music Festival Fans This Summer

At last year’s Glastonbury Festival, held as always on a 900-acre farm in England’s Somerset region, the programming was typically eclectic and electric. Maybe you wanted to sway with retro abandon as Shania Twain sashayed alongside a parade of hobby horses and a glammed-out gang of dancers and drag queens. Or perhaps it was a chance to see Dua Lipa let loose amid confetti canons and pyrotechnics, or see SZA close the weekend twerking in fairy wings halfway up a tree onstage as she teased the crowd.

Music lovers have far more options in 2025—at Glastonbury and beyond—as the United Kingdom stakes its claim as the top gig-jetting destination, with a busier-than-ever festival calendar.

From June 2 to 7, the Austin-born festival SXSW (South by Southwest) will make its European debut in dozens of venues in London’s hipster-heavy East End. Also new is Lido (June 6 to 7 and June 13 to 15), a massive operation produced by behemoth AEG that features Charli XCX as a lineup curator.

Returning shows this summer include BST Hyde Park (multiple dates in June and July), an event that’s always headlined by a world-famous name (this year: Sabrina Carpenter), as well as Glastonbury (June 25 to 29), where headliners will include Rod Stewart and Neil Young. Also in the mix is the AEG-produced All Points East (August 16, 22, 23, and 24) with Raye, Tyla, and Doechii performing. (Smaller, niche festivals—like underground music-focused Wide Awake, lavish popfest Mighty Hoopla, soul-funk-powered Cross the Tracks, and electronic celebration Field Day—kicked off the festival season in May.)

Take That onstage at BST Hyde Park in London in 2023. Photograph courtesy of BST Hyde Park.

On the tour front, there’s a little thing happening called the Oasis reunion, with 17 U.K. shows, kicking off July 4 in Wales. Still, the big new event on music calendars this year is the United Kingdom’s take on SXSW.

The new SXSW offshoot will take inspiration from British music traditions while also presenting a fresh approach to programming versus the almost 40-year-old event in Austin, Texas (where last year’s lineup included everyone from Meghan Markle to Jane Fonda). Music, film, gaming, tech, and business will all be present, but SXSW’s London offerings will run simultaneously, rather than sequentially, per the Texas model. “The core mission of ‘South by’ is what’s new and what’s next, but we’re doing them all at the same time so there can be many more moments of convergence,” says Adem Holness, head of music for SXSW London. “You can watch a film, catch a talk, or come see a band.” Discoverability is crucial, with every venue, whether a church or a nightclub like XOYO, within a 15-minute walk.

Holness tapped the likes of A&R maestro Nathan Barley Phillips to sit on the jury that reviews submissions. And plans are for the newest SXSW to reflect the eclectic, international nature of London’s population: Korea’s Seoul Community Radio and Deadly (which champions Jamaican music) are among the co-curators on tap. “British and European audiences have an open mind for form and different types of performance—we can put classic next to experimental and electronic, and find a space in between the two,” says Holness.

SXSW’s team can take inspiration from an already thriving event that takes place in the same neighborhood each spring, the Brick Lane Jazz Festival. “We’re going to meet for a coffee next week,” says Brick Lane organizer Juliet Kennedy of her counterparts at SXSW London. “I’m up for helping them as much as I can.”

Kennedy runs a nightclub in the neighborhood, Ninety One Living Room, and started the festival in 2022 to help post-pandemic recovery in the live music sector. She posits that the liveliness of festivals in Britain right now derives, in part, from the harshness of the country’s COVID-era experience, which included multiple lockdowns over a two-year period. “That sense of togetherness is central to all festivals, but the pandemic is the reason we exist,” she says.

Three thousand people attended Brick Lane’s first year; for 2025 (April 25 to 27), Kennedy sold more than three times the number of tickets, each of which grants access to a dozen venues around the area. French singer Adi Oasis—“a goddess,” says Kennedy—headlined one night, and octogenarian American instrumentalist Laraaji closed the fest. “There’s a strong concept of jazz as a middle-aged sort of chin-stroking affair,” she says. “But it’s lively and young, and you can be on your feet dancing.”

The United Kingdom will host a complementary range of classical-skewing events, too. Helen Brocklebank, CEO of Walpole, the trade body for luxury in the United Kingdom, puts it succinctly: “This is a superpower of Britain—we do music like nobody else, from Glastonbury to Glyndebourne, always with a level of excellence.”

Glastonbury Festival 2024, Tipi Field, Photo by Sami Hussein/Wireimage

At Glyndebourne, staged at a grand country house in East Sussex from May 16 through August 24, guests can enjoy opera while picnicking on the lawn, Champagne in hand. This year, Glyndebourne will present its first-ever production of Parsifal, as well as a commission based on the children’s book The Railway Children. Artistic director Stephen Langridge notes that 25 percent of visitors were new to Glyndebourne last year, and 25 percent of those were new to opera. “We’re hoping to be the gateway drug,” he says with a laugh, noting the madcapness of locating an opera festival on the rolling lawns of a manor house. “It’s very English, and there’s an eccentric thing underneath it, especially when you see the sheep in fields nearby.”

Options for classical music lovers also include the nearly 110-year-old Thaxted Festival, taking place June 20 to July 13 in northwest Essex, and the BBC Proms, an eight-week summer season of shows at the Royal Albert Hall in London (July 18 to September 13). The latter, says Zeb Soanes, a presenter for the independent British radio station Classic FM, is “part of the fabric of British life, like Wimbledon and the chimes of Big Ben. It’s the largest classical music festival in the entire world, but the great thing is, it’s wonderfully all-inclusive. Rufus Wainwright did a concert, and late night, there is jazz, soul, and funk.”

British music festivals, then, are distinctive for their wide-ranging, unpredictable programming, but there’s something else that sets them apart, at least according to Lisa Verrico. She’s a journalist and longtime festivalgoer who has produced countless guides to Britain’s annual calendar of music offerings. Unlike Coachella—“you go once or twice to take a photograph of yourself there,” says Verrico—modern British festivals are intended to be fresh every year and, most crucially, family-friendly. Her twentysomething daughter first started accompanying her at the age of two and is now an avid attendee herself. Says Verrico, “If you grow up going to festivals and loving them, you’ll go back—that’s why, now, everybody goes.”

Fourth of July Fireworks, Four Seasons Style

Nothing says summer in the U.S. like Fourth of July. While backyard cookouts and sparklers are classic ways to celebrate Independence Day, sometimes you want a more elevated experience. Whether you’re craving a private cabana by the pool or prefer to soak up panoramic skyline views, Four Seasons is the perfect destination for the whole family. Here are a few of our favourite stateside Four Seasons properties for unparalleled Fourth of July fireworks viewing.

St. Louis

With sprawling views of the Mississippi River, Four Seasons St. Louis is an ideal destination for this most American of holidays. The eighth-floor Sky Terrace features a rooftop pool with tropical cocktails and cabana rentals. If you need to escape the heat for a while, pop into the Topgolf Swing Suites to unleash your inner Tiger Woods. Come nightfall, Sky Terrace offers exceptional views of the pyrotechnics over the iconic Gateway Arch. You can also host a more private celebration by booking an Arch-view room.

Nashville

It’s no secret that Music City knows how to party, and this year’s Fourth of July celebration at the Rivière Rooftop at the Four Seasons Hotel Nashville aims to keep that tradition alive. The festivities kick off at noon with grilled family favourites, a sorbet station, and a whoopie pie dessert bar. Turn the fun up a notch come sunset with an all-inclusive ticketed event that includes a summer barbecue showcase (think BBQ ribs, cedar plank salmon, and smoked brisket) and an open bar. Overlooking the Cumberland River, you’ll savour one of the city’s most spectacular fireworks views with a full belly and a song in your heart.

Philadelphia

Every guest room at the Four Seasons Philadelphia boasts stellar views of the City of Brotherly Love, making the property an ideal setting to experience the annual fireworks display above the Museum of Art. Or reserve a table at 60th-floor lounge SkyHigh and enjoy a glass of bubbly while taking in the epic views of the shimmering night sky. You can also make it a more educational Fourth of July by booking a walking tour of the city’s historic landmarks and learning about Philadelphia’s pivotal role in American independence.

Minneapolis

At 36 stories high, Four Seasons Hotel Minneapolis enjoys sweeping panoramas of downtown and the Mississippi River. It’s just a short distance away from Stone Arch Bridge, where the city’s annual Red, White, and Boom fireworks display takes place. Cool off in Minneapolis’s only hotel with both indoor and outdoor pools, and beat the crowds come nightfall as you delight in the spectacle from the rooftop at Riva Terrace Restaurant and Bar

Four Seasons Hotel Minneapolis has unencumbered views of the skyline.

New Orleans

With a 75-foot saltwater pool and expansive views over the Mississippi River, the Four Seasons Hotel New Orleans offers a cool escape from the bustling city. With private cabanas, a full-service bar and restaurant, and plenty of pool toys, its roof is also the ideal perch for fireworks watching with the whole family—and enjoying a glass or two of signature Frosé. If you’re looking to take the Fourth to even greater heights, the Vue Orleans observation deck on the 34th floor has 360-degree views of the city.

Refreshing European cocktails

CHEERS TO SUMMER AT MZSA, LE BAR DES BERGUES AND SÜREYYA TERAS LOUNGE

Settle in at MÚZSA at Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace Budapest with a Sunglow, a gem of a cocktail reminiscent of the sun itself with its golden hue, or sip a frothy Tender Blossom, ruby red from hibiscus and zingy from notes of ginger at Le Bar des Bergues at Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues Geneva. Keep the jewel-toned theme of summer going with an Ada Vapuru – available at Süreyya Teras Lounge at Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul at Sultanahmet – that reflects the breezy charm of cruising the Marmara Sea in summertime and delivers a burst of citrusy flavours.

SIP REFRESHING COCKTAILS AT THE BAR AT WILD CARROT, ATRIUM BAR AND AVRA

Looking European cocktails that are a bit more traditional? The Legendary Negroni at The Bar at Wild Carrot at Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire boasts sweet vermouth to offset the bitterness of citrusy gin. Over at Four Seasons Hotel Firenze, silver tequila and butterfly pea tea come together in a dance for your taste-buds in Atrium Bar’s Legacy cocktail. The vivid sapphire colour resonates with the kind of clear blue summer sky you can only find in the Italian countryside.

At Four Seasons Astir Palace Hotel Athens destination bar Avra, cocktails are the language of choice. “We love a good drink,” says Bar Manager Manon Kapfer, “and we love sharing beautifully crafted cocktails with other enthusiasts.” Experience the art of fine drinking with a gin-based Martinez, one of the bar’s Ultimate 24 Avra Classic Cocktails. This special menu showcases 24 classic cocktails accompanied by the stories of the bartenders whose careers they’ve shaped.

Innovative European Dishes

TASTE THE FLAVOURS OF EUROPE AT OCAKBAŞI, MEI UME AND LE CINQ

Summertime in Istanbul means Turkish grilling traditions are on full display at Ocakbaşi (Turkish for “fireside”) in the form of a Mixed Kebab Platter – best enjoyed alongside sun-soaked views of the Bosphorus Strait from the restaurant’s terrace at Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul at the Bosphorus.

Warmer weather also means warmer waters, and ocean-fresh seafood takes centre stage at Four Seasons Hotel London at Tower Bridge. Discover the complexity of a single ingredient with Lobster Two Ways – a Mei Ume signature. Lobster Tail Sashimi and Lobster Soup converge for the ultimate in dual flavour profiles.

At Four Seasons Hotel George V, Paris, Michelin-starred Le Cinq’s Executive Chef Christian Le Squer has reinvented a dish from his childhood that’s perfect for summer dining: Line-Fished Sea Bass with Caviar and Buttermilk. He says his goal is “to get emotions going so that guests feel the love that I have for what I create” – just like his maman would do.

SAVOUR LOCAL PRODUCE AT DANI, ZELO AND PRINCIPE CERAMI

If you’re in the mood for something chilled, cool off with Nitro Tomato and Green Gazpacho at Dani at Four Seasons Hotel Madrid, an Andalusian specialty developed by celebrity chef Dani Garcia. Known for their sweet, yet nutty flavour, cerfoglio roots offset the gaminess of tender lamb in Zelo’s Lamb Chicory with Cerfoglio Roots at Four Seasons Hotel Milan, where Executive Chef Fabrizio Borraccino serves up thoughtful Italian cuisine.

End your savoury summer journey at Michelin-starred Principe Cerami at San Domenico Palace, Taormina, A Four Seasons Hotel, and delight in the classic flavours of bright asparagus and black summer truffle, both quintessential elements to their succulent quail dish.

Must-try summer desserts

INDULGE IN SOMETHING SWEET AT ZAFFERNO, LE CAP AND O JAPONÊS

For chocolate lovers, both the Torroncino & Gianduja at Zafferano at Four Seasons Hotel Baku and Le Cap’s Crispy Chocolate and Hazelnuts at Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat, A Four Seasons Hotel are must-tries. These refined creations are far from the too-sweet variety you’ll find elsewhere. As Executive Pastry Chef Pierre-Jean Quinonero from Cap-Ferrat explains in his unique approach to dessert philosophy, “I like to put modern spins on things, maximizing visuals and minimizing sugar.”

And while it may be on a different continent entirely, be transported to Japan with O Japonês’s authentic Mochi Ice Cream Trio – with flavours such as yuzu, matcha and chocolate offering a cool refuge during warm summer nights spent at Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon.

TREAT YOUR TASTE-BUDS AT PAVYLLON LONDON AND COTTOCRUDO

Tailor-Made Summer Getaways

The arrival of summer always brings a feeling of excitement and possibility. What will you do? Where will you go? What kind of stories will you get to tell when you return home? If you’re currently daydreaming about your next summer getaway, we’re right there with you.

This summer, we’re putting our focus firmly on joy – something the dedicated concierge teams at Four Seasons specialize in. They’re passionate about creating memories that will last a lifetime and making sure your dream getaway becomes a reality. Armed with expert knowledge, these talented Concierges are well-versed in creating custom itineraries, often with thoughtful surprises along the way. Whether it’s a family vacation in Orlando or a milestone celebration in Hualalai, Four Seasons knows how to make each and every stay unique and memorable.

We talked to Concierges at five different resorts about what tailor-made itineraries could look like at their destinations, along with their recommendations for the perfect summer stays.

Gear up for adventure in Maui

Home to an alluring mix of natural beauty and outdoor fun, Maui – Hawaii’s second-largest island – is a haven for adventure seekers who appreciate a laid-back lifestyle. From exploring waterfalls and hiking to the summit of Haleakalā to kayaking alongside a pod of dolphins, it’s easy to fill your days with wonder here. “There’s a reason the saying is ‘Maui nō ka ʻoi’ (Maui is the best), and we encourage everyone to get out and discover this very special destination,” says Margaux Pfeiffer, Director of Concierge and Guest Experience at Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea.

From the moment you arrive, you can expect to feel a genuine sense of welcome and the connective spirit of aloha. Pfeiffer recommends stopping by for cocktails and pupu in the Lobby Lounge during the sunset ceremony – which includes hula and live Hawaiian music – before heading to dinner at DUO Steak and Seafood on your first night. “It’s the perfect way to set the mood for your tropical escape,” she says.

Mau 2332 970x540

Depending on your preferences, the Concierge can arrange for a day of adventure or create a custom itinerary for your entire stay. “Maui is a spectacular destination for summer travel,” says Pfeiffer, “and due to the Resort’s prime location just above Wailea Beach, guests have easy access to a wide range of ocean activities, shopping, golf and restaurants.” Favourites include helicopter tours, hiking trips, snorkelling excursions and surfing lessons.

Rise early and enjoy one of the Resort’s many complimentary cultural offerings, such as the outrigger canoe experience. Then spend the day lounging on the golden sands of Wailea Beach or poolside. Reserve a Luxury Cabana at the adults-only infinity-edge Serenity Pool while the children attend Kids For All Seasons, or choose an Ocean-View Luxury Cabana for a family-friendly option. Enjoy a treatment at the Spa and Wellness Center or visit the Next|Health IV lounge for a vitamin therapy IV drip to ensure you are feeling your best for your vacation. As the day draws to an end, Pfeiffer suggests enjoying a sunset dinner at Ferraro’s Bar e Ristorante, where you’ll find house-made pastas and a menu filled with the island’s freshest ingredients.

CAN’T-MISS ACTIVITY

Be sure to sign up for the Resort’s newest unforgettable experience, A Wayfinder’s Journey. This private and customizable three-hour catamaran experience celebrates the history of Hawaii’s wayfinding ancestors. First, you’ll enjoy a multi-course meal inspired by canoe plants (the 24 original plants brought to Hawaii by Polynesian voyagers) plus wine pairings, all prepared on board by a Four Seasons chef. Afterwards, you’ll be immersed in a Hawaii stargazing experience that is part storytelling and part astronomy. Your host for the evening is the distinguished navigator Kala Baybayan Tanaka, who uses the stars, swells and other natural elements to guide her, just like her ancestors centuries ago.

TRUE STAY STORY

An avid canoe paddler staying at the Resort had mentioned to the Guest Experience Manager that he would love to paddle with a Hawaiian team. When word got to Tyson, a Banquet Attendant, he offered to take the guest out for a paddle with his own canoe team to share his skill and knowledge.

Make family memories in Orlando

Families travel to Orlando for a magical experience, and the team at
Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World® Resort is always on the lookout for opportunities to bring a little extra joy to every stay, whether it’s with a custom-decorated cabana for a recent college graduate or arranging a private meet and greet with a Disney princess.

The thing on everyone’s mind here is, of course, the theme parks, and John Dechmerowski, Concierge Assistant Manager at the Resort, strongly suggests booking a guided Disney VIP Tour through the Disney Planning Center. “We recommend that all our guests use these tours,” he says. “It’s so much easier to navigate through the parks.” VIP Tours need to be booked 60 days in advance, and the on-site team can make all the arrangements for you. Once they know your preferences – like which character your kids are dying to meet or what show you’d like front-row tickets to – they’ll call on your behalf to book experiences as soon as they’re available, leaving one more thing off your travel to-do list. Summertime is actually a great time to visit, notes Dechmerowski, since the crowds are calmer than they are during holiday peak season.

Want to retreat to some Four Seasons–style family fun? The Resort itself is a sprawling 26-acre oasis filled with a variety of amenities and on-site experiences guaranteed to keep guests of all ages smiling. Spend at least a day splashing around the Resort’s 5-acre waterpark – Explorer Island – complete with pools, a lazy river, water slides, splash zone, and a multitude of games and places to hang out together or with new friends.

Explorer Island is also home base for the award-winning Kids For All Seasons program, where kids ages 4–12 can take part in engaging activities, both indoors and out, such as superhero training, crafting, beach games and swimming. Drop them off in the morning and enjoy some quality time together at the adults-only pool, relax at the Spa with a personalized treatment, improve your tennis game with a private lesson, or play a round on the Tom Fazio–designed, 18-hole Tranquilo Golf Course.

For an adults-only evening, you can have the Concierge arrange for a babysitter while you stop by The Lobby Bar for happy hour before heading to dinner at Capa, the Michelin-starred steakhouse perched on the Resort’s 17th floor.

CAN’T-MISS ACTIVITY

Try the private pizza-making class at Ravello. “These are really a big hit with families,” says Dechmerowski. For larger groups, the team can even arrange for a class in the demo kitchen. The chef will come in and guide you through making your own pizza from scratch, including how to roll the dough, add the toppings and cook it to perfection.

TRUE STAY STORY

A young guest was particularly fond of one gelato flavour at Lickety Split. She had it so often that the team renamed the flavour after her for the duration of her stay, written on the chalkboard for all to see. Her face lit up each time she walked into the café.

Celebrate together in Hualalai

Surrounded by the white-sand beaches and the black lava landscape of the Kona-Kohala coast, Four Seasons Resort Hualalai offers a unique perspective on what the Big Island has to offer. “Everyone has their own story,” says Chef Concierge Manon Neller, “and our role as Concierges is to provide each guest with a customized itinerary curated specifically for them.” The ties to tradition, nature and island culture are felt everywhere at the Resort – from the daily programming at the Ka‘upulehu Cultural Center to the on-site swimmable aquarium known as King’s Pond – and Neller and his team are well versed in helping you create your own stories, traditions and once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

“Whether it is a first-time guest celebrating a one-year anniversary or a return guest celebrating a 50th anniversary, our aim is to exude love and aloha,” says Neller. In fact, the Resort is known as a favourite Hawaiian destination, one that people flock to time and again. Spend your days filled with a variety of experiences such as playing a round of golf at the Jack Nicklaus signature Hualalai Golf Course, enjoying traditional Hawaiian treatments at the Spa, dining at one of the Resort’s seven restaurants or embarking on a custom ocean adventure.

Kon 2535 Kon2532 970x540

If you’re in Hawaii to celebrate a milestone, you’re in luck. “We’ll help you celebrate a monumental occasion with an over-the-top experience on or off the Resort,” says Neller. “A helicopter ride to see the most active volcano in the world, a picnic under a waterfall, a romantic dinner under the stars prepared by one of our Resort chefs – nothing’s off the table.” Travelling with a group? The Resort’s villas and specialty suites offer added space and privacy, a dedicated Concierge, and custom inclusions that will tailor your stay even further.

Soak in the sights, sounds and flavours of the Seychelles

When describing Four Seasons Resort Seychelles, Director of Guest Relations James Edwards has two words: true paradise. “You are always reminded of the beauty of the little cove we’re nestled in when you look out onto the horizon and see the sprawling sea,” he says. “Surrounded by mango, takamaka and kannel trees, the raw nature of the Seychelles is felt everywhere you go.”

Located just north of Madagascar, Seychelles is an archipelago of 115 islands comprising white-sand beaches, lush green mountains, coral reefs and granite outcroppings, all largely untouched by humans. Four Seasons has two resorts here, one on Seychelles’ largest island, Mahé, and another on its very own private island, Four Seasons Resort Seychelles at Desroches Island. One amazing way to explore the mountainous forests of Mahé, suggests Edwards, is on foot. Embark with a guide on a journey through the forest, learning more about the abundant variety of locally growing fruits, and stumbling across some incredible views of the island. “Whether you are keen to test your limits with a strenuous trek or simply want a stroll to learn more about the local flora, there is definitely a hike for you,” says Edwards.

Seychelles also offers plenty of ocean adventures. Point your kayak towards the horizon at the best time to view the sun as it sets on Petit Anse Bay. “It’s an absolute must,” Edwards says. Or have the Concierge arrange for a cruise to some of the local islands in the archipelago. With so many islands and experiences to choose from, you can easily make this trip your own. “For those wanting to stay active, there are snorkelling, fishing and stopping off for a bicycle ride on the beautiful island of La Digue,” says Edwards. “Otherwise, you can visit Praslin Island and the Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve – home of the indigenous Coco de Mer – relax on a beautiful beach or take in the sunshine from the cruise itself.”

Back at Four Seasons Resort Seychelles, reconnect with your mind, body and spirit at Le Syel Spa’s Konekte Shack. Here, the expert team can help you deepen your meditation practice, rebalance your energy and even create your own body scrub with natural ingredients such as cinnamon (known here as kannel) that’s harvested and dried on-site. “The team will help you make the perfect scrub for you, using butter, oils or soaps,” Edwards says.

Follow nature’s pace in Langkawi

“When it comes to nature, you are really investing in the future,” says Aidi Abdullah, Senior Naturalist at Four Seasons Resort Langkawi. Located within the Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark, the beachfront Resort is a gateway to the natural wonders of Southeast Asia. Here, you’ll have the chance to connect with the on-site team of experts who are passionate about the environment. They’ll show off the region’s unique flora and fauna as well as the diverse habitats ranging from rainforest and mangroves to ancient salt-water lakes and towering sea stacks.

The Resort’s Geopark Discovery Centre is an excellent place to start. Stop by for one of the regularly scheduled nature talks or peruse the interactive exhibits at your own pace to get a sense of the local ecosystem. When you’re ready to experience it all first hand, Abdullah recommends taking in Langkawi’s inland beauty on a guided bicycle tour. Ride past traditional villages with stilted wooden houses and keep an eye out for water buffalo lounging in the mud. Tours can be fully customized to your preferences and activity level. Plan a stop at a nearby waterfall for a picnic lunch or opt for a ride through lush paddy fields with the mountains as your backdrop – whatever route you choose, the scenery is guaranteed to inspire.

Once you’ve explored the land, it’s time to set off on a seafaring adventure. Tour the three islands located in the Resort’s bay on a private Bay Cruise, or head to Pulau Payar Marine Park for a snorkelling excursion in the park’s crystal-clear waters. For a truly unforgettable evening, the Resort can arrange for an intimate sunset charter around the southern archipelago, complete with champagne and light bites. Fishing is also a huge part of the local culture in Langkawai, and the Resort offers a variety of ways to take part. Catch sea bass, grouper and trevally from your perch on one of the sheltered islands in the southern part of the archipelago, or try your line on the northern side at the tip of the Resort’s beach. At the end of the day, return to your villa and enjoy a barbecue feast with your very own catch on the menu.

In Langkawi, the deep connection with the surrounding world also inspires the urge to look inward. Head to the Geo Spa for their Elemental Balance ritual, a custom three-part program that’s designed to bring your mind, body and spirit into a state of harmony. You can also take your pick from the variety of signature treatments inspired by 5,000 years of Ayurvedic knowledge.
