Transformational Travel: Connecting with the World and Yourself

Visiting a new destination is more than an exploration of unfamiliar lands—it’s an exploration of self. If you’re willing to cast off traditional ideas about travel and welcome something different, perhaps even something that pushes you beyond the limits of personal comfort, you can unleash your creativity, shift your perspective in subtle yet extraordinary ways, and experience the world with intention.

Follow four bold travellers to some of their favorite destinations and learn how these places and their experiences there shaped the way they view the world and connect with it. You’ll discover that what you fear may be too daring is the starting point for truly transformational travel.

Commune with nature to connect with yourself

To say Kimi Werner is comfortable in the water is a vast understatement. As a child growing up in coastal Maui, she would often go snorkeling with her father as he free-dove and spearfished (what he caught was the family’s main source of food). And as an adult, Werner continues to find the ocean at the center of her life—and career(s): She is a U.S. National Spearfishing Champion, a bold free diver, a seafood-focused chef, and an ocean conservationist.

Free diver and U.S. National Spearfishing Champion Kimi Werner in her element.

Werner has traveled all over the world—even to Antarctica—in pursuit of natural beauty and in service of protecting it, but her favorite place to explore remains her home state of Hawaii. She and her family live on Oahu’s North Store, which, she says, “still does function as a small town. The community is very much in tune with nature, and a lot of people live here because they want nature to dictate their lives, their choices, their schedules.”

Her top destination when it comes to Oahu? “Waimea Bay is hands down my favorite beach, and I think it’s one of the most magical places in the world. Whenever I go, I find myself questioning why I travel so far when I have something so beautiful right here.” For hiking enthusiasts, she recommends Keālia Trail (“I call it the StairMaster of the North Shore”) and Ka’ena Point Trail, where there is a bird sanctuary. All of these breathtaking spots are within a 45-minute drive of Four Seasons Resort Oahu at Ko Olina, which offers a morning or sunset Ma’ili Pillbox Hike for a closer hiking experience.

Explore the outdoors in Oahu

At Four Seasons Resort Hualālai, situated on an expansive stretch of coastline on the Big Island of Hawaii, you can get a taste of what it feels like to explore the ocean’s depths and push your physical limits via the Kimi Werner Freediving Experience, in which as many as four guests can spend two half-days learning to free dive with the national spearfishing champ. The package includes a four-course private dinner crafted by the resort’s executive chef, Richard Polhemus.

Let creativity lead to self-discovery

Whether you’re exploring the world or exploring creative pursuits, you’ll find one common thread: The most meaningful experiences occur when things happen unexpectedly. Unplanned adventures and thinking beyond the expectations of a typical vacation may lead to a deeper connection with your destination and yourself.

Photographer Dave Krugman captures a golden-hour moment in Kyoto.

Just ask photographer and creative director Dave Krugman. His numerous world travel experiences – including time spent in Kyoto – have led him to believe that one of the most essential elements of a successful trip, regardless of destination, is keeping an open mind.

“I try to leave a lot of breathing room for spontaneity and serendipity, because my favourite moments are when something happens, the path diverges, and I’m exposed to this thing that I couldn’t have planned even if I wanted to,” he says.

In Kyoto, those moments could be immersing yourself in the world of geiko and maiko – kimono-clad entertainers who perform traditional song and dance – and an ozashiki asobi dinner in one of the city’s historic geisha districts. Or learning the art of Zen meditation from the deputy head monk of Shoden Eigen-in.

Free your creativity in Kyoto

During his stay at Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto, Krugman discovered a variety of new people, environments and experiences: A hotel guide led him on a tour of an ancient bamboo forest, and the Concierge arranged a visit to a local lantern workshop, where artisan lantern-makers taught him how to carefully layer thin sheets of paper over a frame to build his own mini lantern.

Even the Hotel’s atmosphere provided opportunities to connect with the culture and history of the city. Set around the 800-year-old Shakusui-en pond garden – one immortalized in a 12th-century epic poem – every setting at Four Seasons is carefully crafted with purpose.

Krugman cites travel as one of the biggest influences on his photography and his relationship with the world around him. “There is nothing more inspiring and invigorating than travel,” he says. “It always shows me that the world is so much larger than we imagine, so much more diverse. Witnessing this complexity and the vastness of the world is a humbling feeling, and it inspires me. Photography allows me to connect more deeply with all I see and experience.”

Redefine your own horizons

There are many valid reasons to talk yourself out of the adventure of a lifetime – a lack of travel companions, language barriers, concerns about food. But writer and entrepreneur Jessica Nabongo believes that embracing the unfamiliar in spite of your worries can improve your life and deepen your understanding of connection. She also believes that being afraid has no place in a travel itinerary.

Two people sit at a dining table with a large bouquet of white and pink roses in the center, with a person wearing a dark blue suit pours wine in a glass

Writer, entrepreneur and world-traveller Jessica Nabongo enjoys the Michelin-starred cuisine at Il Palagio.

“I would say that my travel philosophy is to travel without fear,” says Nabongo, the first Black woman to visit all 195 countries in the world. “I’m constantly living outside of my comfort zone. I think my comfort zone is discomfort,” she quips.

In Florence, one of Italy’s most beautiful cities and the centre of the cultural and intellectual revolution that swept through Europe during the Renaissance, Nabongo leaned into the unfamiliar to become uniquely acquainted with the region. A truffle-hunting excursion led her through the scenic Italian countryside, while a Michelin-starred dining experience and tours of iconic landmarks – like the Duomo, with its distinctive terracotta-tiled dome – offered new perspectives of the storied city.

Uncover fresh perspectives in Florence

Aside from abandoning fear, Nabongo’s second travel philosophy is to explore new places with a positive mindset: “I always say positive energy coats my stomach, because I’ve never had food poisoning!”

Arguably, sampling local fare is among the easiest ways to connect with a new place, a new culture and new people. In Florence, that could mean queueing up with the locals to eat lampredotto at one of the city’s myriad food stands. Or it could mean indulging in an intimate sunset dinner at the renowned Ponte Vecchio, the city’s signature arch bridge. Available exclusively to guests of Four Seasons Hotel Firenze, the bridge’s only open-air terrace provides a romantic setting for a decadent meal above the glittering jewellery boutique Dante Cardini.

Travelling with a reasonable amount of abandon can alter our perspective and shape the way we connect with the world around us, with others – and with ourselves. It can even change how we think of travel. For Nabongo, each new adventure doesn’t involve leaving home, but arriving there. Her experiences with hospitality in Florence and beyond have taught her to appreciate the fact that any destination is just as much about the people as it is about the location.

“For me, now, home is in people,” she says. “Yes, I physically live in Detroit, but I have homes in London, Accra, Dakar, Bangkok, Rome – I can think of so many places that I have homes because my people are there.”

Travel with intention for deeper cultural immersion

Trips all too often become mired in travel itineraries: Sights to see, foods to eat, things to do. Recommendations from friends or something you saw on social media. The pressure to check items off a list becomes so great that a long-awaited getaway can quickly turn into a chore instead of a rewarding experience.

Three people stand on the edge of a sail boat as the sun sets behind them

Social entrepreneur, yogi, activist and mountaineer athlete Georgina Miranda sets sail in Costa Rica.

Georgina Miranda, who cites yoga and energy practice among her laundry list of talents, thinks about this a lot. She believes travel that’s overly focused on getting things done can limit your ability to truly arrive at a destination and connect with it. Instead, she suggests giving yourself 20 to 30 minutes upon arrival to be present in the moment without any obligatons. “It’s this art of being versus doing,” she says. “And I think Western culture really encourages us to constantly be doing, so we miss out on so much magic.”

Costa Rica is one of the destinations where she lets her senses capture that magic – the sight of verdant rainforests, the sound of waves rushing to shore, the cool mist of a thundering waterfall, the salty scent of the ocean breeze.

“It’s been in the recent years that [I realized] my travelling has changed so much,” she says. “I no longer want to see the world – I want to feel the world. And that really shapes how I travel.”

Practice mindfulness in Costa Rica

Tucked between unspoiled beaches on the north Pacific coast, Four Seasons Resort Peninsula Papagayo, Costa Rica, is surrounded by rugged yet tranquil natural beauty that eases into your psyche, connecting you to this lush paradise. This coastal retreat offers unrivalled access to some of the world’s most unique habitats. There, you can witness monkeys leaping from limb to limb during an exploration of the mystical cloud forest Monteverde, or venture into the mangroves and paddle through incredible tree and root systems to see the rich diversity of wildlife found in this serene sanctuary.

“If you’re open enough, you can let a lot of wonderful things come into your life when you travel,” says Miranda. “It snaps you out of autopilot and it gives you the opportunity to wake up to yourself again.” In Costa Rica, that experience could come in the form of a yoga session or meditation class at the Resort’s Spa to help you find your balance or set your intention for the day. The on-site Wellness Concierge can design a custom plan with you to help your best self emerge – centring your breath, body and mind to restore balance.

“There’s a moment when travelling that you realize you will never be the same because of what you’ve experienced,” Miranda says. “You have felt, touched, tasted and been immersed in a new reality, and so now your own reality is different.”

Once the rush of festive season settles down, making time to reflect becomes a little easier. What’s in store for the year ahead? If you ask us, there’s no better place to gather your thoughts than in the warm, relaxing embrace of a perfectly drawn bath. Better still – make that a bathtub with an unforgettable view. At Four Seasons, the simple yet grounding experience of a bath gets elevated to new heights.

Look out onto Petite Anse bay from your hillside tub in the Seychelles, relax in a hand-hammered copper bathtub set among the treetops in the Golden Triangle, or sip champagne as you gaze out on a historic garden in Florence from your free-standing marble tub. Whatever your view of choice, the result is bound to be relaxation and clarity. These tubs will have you dreaming of your next stay with Four Seasons.

Indoor wellness pool

In Japan, bathing is considered a daily ritual meant to bring purification and pleasure. At Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto, the best way to experience the custom is with some time in the Hotel’s ofuro, a hot bath and sauna. Steep in traditional Japanese sake – which contains rich amino acids to brighten and soften skin along with purifying, moisturizing and anti-ageing properties – or luxuriate in a milk bath made with natural hot spring water, organic green tea extracts and green tea seed oil for dewy skin.

Sky-high serenity in Tokyo

The fervent energy of Tokyo is keenly felt in the Otemachi district, the city’s buzzing financial centre. Surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows, the tub is perfectly positioned so you can take in the sprawling city views from the ultimate vantage point. Turn on the Bluetooth speaker and put on the Frequencies playlist – curated by Bellosound in collaboration with the Hotel’s Director of Spa and Wellness Faraaz Tanveer – and time your bath with the sunset to watch the Tokyo skyline glide from day into night.

Cityscapes in Philadelphia

The Hotel itself is set atop Philadelphia’s tallest tower – the Comcast Technology Center – meaning you can relax in the tub and go sightseeing at the same time.

The arrival of summer always brings a feeling of excitement and possibility. What will you do? Where will you go? What kind of stories will you get to tell when you return home? If you’re currently daydreaming about your next summer getaway, we’re right there with you.

This summer, we’re putting our focus firmly on joy – something the dedicated concierge teams at Four Seasons specialize in. They’re passionate about creating memories that will last a lifetime and making sure your dream getaway becomes a reality. Armed with expert knowledge, these talented Concierges are well-versed in creating custom itineraries, often with thoughtful surprises along the way. Whether it’s a family vacation in Orlando or a milestone celebration in Hualalai, Four Seasons knows how to make each and every stay unique and memorable.

We talked to Concierges at five different resorts about what tailor-made itineraries could look like at their destinations, along with their recommendations for the perfect summer stays.

Gear up for adventure in Maui

Home to an alluring mix of natural beauty and outdoor fun, Maui – Hawaii’s second-largest island – is a haven for adventure seekers who appreciate a laid-back lifestyle. From exploring waterfalls and hiking to the summit of Haleakalā to kayaking alongside a pod of dolphins, it’s easy to fill your days with wonder here. “There’s a reason the saying is ‘Maui nō ka ʻoi’ (Maui is the best), and we encourage everyone to get out and discover this very special destination,” says Margaux Pfeiffer, Director of Concierge and Guest Experience at Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea.

From the moment you arrive, you can expect to feel a genuine sense of welcome and the connective spirit of aloha. Pfeiffer recommends stopping by for cocktails and pupu in the Lobby Lounge during the sunset ceremony – which includes hula and live Hawaiian music – before heading to dinner at DUO Steak and Seafood on your first night. “It’s the perfect way to set the mood for your tropical escape,” she says.

Depending on your preferences, the Concierge can arrange for a day of adventure or create a custom itinerary for your entire stay. “Maui is a spectacular destination for summer travel,” says Pfeiffer, “and due to the Resort’s prime location just above Wailea Beach, guests have easy access to a wide range of ocean activities, shopping, golf and restaurants.” Favourites include helicopter tours, hiking trips, snorkelling excursions and surfing lessons.

Rise early and enjoy one of the Resort’s many complimentary cultural offerings, such as the outrigger canoe experience. Then spend the day lounging on the golden sands of Wailea Beach or poolside. Reserve a Luxury Cabana at the adults-only infinity-edge Serenity Pool while the children attend Kids For All Seasons, or choose an Ocean-View Luxury Cabana for a family-friendly option. Enjoy a treatment at the Spa and Wellness Center or visit the Next|Health IV lounge for a vitamin therapy IV drip to ensure you are feeling your best for your vacation. As the day draws to an end, Pfeiffer suggests enjoying a sunset dinner at Ferraro’s Bar e Ristorante, where you’ll find house-made pastas and a menu filled with the island’s freshest ingredients.

CAN’T-MISS ACTIVITY

Be sure to sign up for the Resort’s newest unforgettable experience, A Wayfinder’s Journey. This private and customizable three-hour catamaran experience celebrates the history of Hawaii’s wayfinding ancestors. First, you’ll enjoy a multi-course meal inspired by canoe plants (the 24 original plants brought to Hawaii by Polynesian voyagers) plus wine pairings, all prepared on board by a Four Seasons chef. Afterwards, you’ll be immersed in a Hawaii stargazing experience that is part storytelling and part astronomy. Your host for the evening is the distinguished navigator Kala Baybayan Tanaka, who uses the stars, swells and other natural elements to guide her, just like her ancestors centuries ago.

TRUE STAY STORY

An avid canoe paddler staying at the Resort had mentioned to the Guest Experience Manager that he would love to paddle with a Hawaiian team. When word got to Tyson, a Banquet Attendant, he offered to take the guest out for a paddle with his own canoe team to share his skill and knowledge.

Make family memories in Orlando

Families travel to Orlando for a magical experience, and the team at
Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World® Resort is always on the lookout for opportunities to bring a little extra joy to every stay, whether it’s with a custom-decorated cabana for a recent college graduate or arranging a private meet and greet with a Disney princess.

The thing on everyone’s mind here is, of course, the theme parks, and John Dechmerowski, Concierge Assistant Manager at the Resort, strongly suggests booking a guided Disney VIP Tour through the Disney Planning Center. “We recommend that all our guests use these tours,” he says. “It’s so much easier to navigate through the parks.” VIP Tours need to be booked 60 days in advance, and the on-site team can make all the arrangements for you. Once they know your preferences – like which character your kids are dying to meet or what show you’d like front-row tickets to – they’ll call on your behalf to book experiences as soon as they’re available, leaving one more thing off your travel to-do list. Summertime is actually a great time to visit, notes Dechmerowski, since the crowds are calmer than they are during holiday peak season.

Want to retreat to some Four Seasons–style family fun? The Resort itself is a sprawling 26-acre oasis filled with a variety of amenities and on-site experiences guaranteed to keep guests of all ages smiling. Spend at least a day splashing around the Resort’s 5-acre waterpark – Explorer Island – complete with pools, a lazy river, water slides, splash zone, and a multitude of games and places to hang out together or with new friends.

Explorer Island is also home base for the award-winning Kids For All Seasons program, where kids ages 4–12 can take part in engaging activities, both indoors and out, such as superhero training, crafting, beach games and swimming. Drop them off in the morning and enjoy some quality time together at the adults-only pool, relax at the Spa with a personalized treatment, improve your tennis game with a private lesson, or play a round on the Tom Fazio–designed, 18-hole Tranquilo Golf Course.

For an adults-only evening, you can have the Concierge arrange for a babysitter while you stop by The Lobby Bar for happy hour before heading to dinner at Capa, the Michelin-starred steakhouse perched on the Resort’s 17th floor.

CAN’T-MISS ACTIVITY

Try the private pizza-making class at Ravello. “These are really a big hit with families,” says Dechmerowski. For larger groups, the team can even arrange for a class in the demo kitchen. The chef will come in and guide you through making your own pizza from scratch, including how to roll the dough, add the toppings and cook it to perfection.

TRUE STAY STORY

A young guest was particularly fond of one gelato flavour at Lickety Split. She had it so often that the team renamed the flavour after her for the duration of her stay, written on the chalkboard for all to see. Her face lit up each time she walked into the café.

Surrounded by the white-sand beaches and the black lava landscape of the Kona-Kohala coast, Four Seasons Resort Hualalai offers a unique perspective on what the Big Island has to offer. “Everyone has their own story,” says Chef Concierge Manon Neller, “and our role as Concierges is to provide each guest with a customized itinerary curated specifically for them.” The ties to tradition, nature and island culture are felt everywhere at the Resort – from the daily programming at the Ka‘upulehu Cultural Center to the on-site swimmable aquarium known as King’s Pond – and Neller and his team are well versed in helping you create your own stories, traditions and once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

“Whether it is a first-time guest celebrating a one-year anniversary or a return guest celebrating a 50th anniversary, our aim is to exude love and aloha,” says Neller. In fact, the Resort is known as a favourite Hawaiian destination, one that people flock to time and again. Spend your days filled with a variety of experiences such as playing a round of golf at the Jack Nicklaus signature Hualalai Golf Course, enjoying traditional Hawaiian treatments at the Spa, dining at one of the Resort’s seven restaurants or embarking on a custom ocean adventure.

If you’re in Hawaii to celebrate a milestone, you’re in luck. “We’ll help you celebrate a monumental occasion with an over-the-top experience on or off the Resort,” says Neller. “A helicopter ride to see the most active volcano in the world, a picnic under a waterfall, a romantic dinner under the stars prepared by one of our Resort chefs – nothing’s off the table.” Travelling with a group? The Resort’s villas and specialty suites offer added space and privacy, a dedicated Concierge, and custom inclusions that will tailor your stay even further.

Neller also recommends taking advantage of the Only at Hualalai experiences available exclusively at Four Seasons. These unique curated experiences are offered in partnership with local craftspeople and experts. Meet champion free-diver, spear-fisher and conservationist Kimi Werner for a thrilling free-diving experience; work with third-generation Hawaii Island blacksmith Neil Kamimura to forge your own knife; or join caretaker Justin Lee for a tour of Háloa Áina’s native Hawaiian ‘Iliahi forest on the slopes of Mauna Loa.

Soak in the sights, sounds and flavours of the Seychelles

When describing Four Seasons Resort Seychelles, Director of Guest Relations James Edwards has two words: true paradise. “You are always reminded of the beauty of the little cove we’re nestled in when you look out onto the horizon and see the sprawling sea,” he says. “Surrounded by mango, takamaka and kannel trees, the raw nature of the Seychelles is felt everywhere you go.”

Located just north of Madagascar, Seychelles is an archipelago of 115 islands comprising white-sand beaches, lush green mountains, coral reefs and granite outcroppings, all largely untouched by humans. Four Seasons has two resorts here, one on Seychelles’ largest island, Mahé, and another on its very own private island, Four Seasons Resort Seychelles at Desroches Island. One amazing way to explore the mountainous forests of Mahé, suggests Edwards, is on foot. Embark with a guide on a journey through the forest, learning more about the abundant variety of locally growing fruits, and stumbling across some incredible views of the island. “Whether you are keen to test your limits with a strenuous trek or simply want a stroll to learn more about the local flora, there is definitely a hike for you,” says Edwards.

Seychelles also offers plenty of ocean adventures. Point your kayak towards the horizon at the best time to view the sun as it sets on Petit Anse Bay. “It’s an absolute must,” Edwards says. Or have the Concierge arrange for a cruise to some of the local islands in the archipelago. With so many islands and experiences to choose from, you can easily make this trip your own. “For those wanting to stay active, there are snorkelling, fishing and stopping off for a bicycle ride on the beautiful island of La Digue,” says Edwards. “Otherwise, you can visit Praslin Island and the Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve – home of the indigenous Coco de Mer – relax on a beautiful beach or take in the sunshine from the cruise itself.”

Back at Four Seasons Resort Seychelles, reconnect with your mind, body and spirit at Le Syel Spa’s Konekte Shack. Here, the expert team can help you deepen your meditation practice, rebalance your energy and even create your own body scrub with natural ingredients such as cinnamon (known here as kannel) that’s harvested and dried on-site. “The team will help you make the perfect scrub for you, using butter, oils or soaps,” Edwards says.

Follow nature’s pace in Langkawi

“When it comes to nature, you are really investing in the future,” says Aidi Abdullah, Senior Naturalist at Four Seasons Resort Langkawi. Located within the Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark, the beachfront Resort is a gateway to the natural wonders of Southeast Asia. Here, you’ll have the chance to connect with the on-site team of experts who are passionate about the environment. They’ll show off the region’s unique flora and fauna as well as the diverse habitats ranging from rainforest and mangroves to ancient salt-water lakes and towering sea stacks.

The Resort’s Geopark Discovery Centre is an excellent place to start. Stop by for one of the regularly scheduled nature talks or peruse the interactive exhibits at your own pace to get a sense of the local ecosystem. When you’re ready to experience it all first hand, Abdullah recommends taking in Langkawi’s inland beauty on a guided bicycle tour. Ride past traditional villages with stilted wooden houses and keep an eye out for water buffalo lounging in the mud. Tours can be fully customized to your preferences and activity level. Plan a stop at a nearby waterfall for a picnic lunch or opt for a ride through lush paddy fields with the mountains as your backdrop – whatever route you choose, the scenery is guaranteed to inspire.

Once you’ve explored the land, it’s time to set off on a seafaring adventure. Tour the three islands located in the Resort’s bay on a private Bay Cruise, or head to Pulau Payar Marine Park for a snorkelling excursion in the park’s crystal-clear waters. For a truly unforgettable evening, the Resort can arrange for an intimate sunset charter around the southern archipelago, complete with champagne and light bites. Fishing is also a huge part of the local culture in Langkawai, and the Resort offers a variety of ways to take part. Catch sea bass, grouper and trevally from your perch on one of the sheltered islands in the southern part of the archipelago, or try your line on the northern side at the tip of the Resort’s beach. At the end of the day, return to your villa and enjoy a barbecue feast with your very own catch on the menu.

In Langkawi, the deep connection with the surrounding world also inspires the urge to look inward. Head to the Geo Spa for their Elemental Balance ritual, a custom three-part program that’s designed to bring your mind, body and spirit into a state of harmony. You can also take your pick from the variety of signature treatments inspired by 5,000 years of Ayurvedic knowledge.

A holistic twist on health

Unspoiled natural forests, stunning sea views, lush gardens: Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat, A Four Seasons Hotel, offers an idyllic setting for establishing a healthy lifestyle. The Hotel’s new Mindfulness and Well-Being programs – upheld by the four pillars of exercise, relaxation, nature and healthy eating – make the most of the beautiful surroundings, with exercises and workshops specifically designed to help participants disconnect from the stress of everyday life and reconnect with themselves, says Spa Director Marie-Cecile Rousset. Enjoy relaxing open-air activities like hiking or cycling along the Mediterranean coast, or take the plunge into wellness with a lesson from two French freediving champions in using mindful breathing to relieve stress . Or cultivate your creative side with a range of hands-on activities that encourage introspection and mental clarity – the tactile experience of making pottery, for instance, is deeply relaxing. End your day with a culinary experience: join Chef Yoric Tièche in the Hotel’s kitchen garden to select fresh herbs and greens, then accompany him to the kitchen to learn how to prepare them with health in mind.

A practice centred on gratitude

Discover the healing power of gratitude during a transformative retreat at Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan, where the Guided by Gratitude program helps guests restore inner peace and strength. “Our spa invites people to slow down through holistic treatments that go back to ancient remedies and traditional well-being practices,” says Regional Spa Director Luisa Anderson. “These retreats remind us to return to wholeness, experience peace and open to greater levels of consciousness.” Resident wellness mentor Ibu Fera – a former Buddhist nun – will lead you through activities like kirtan chanting, guided candlelit meditation sessions and chakra-balancing spa treatments, inspired by Ubud’s unique healing energy and traditional Balinese daily rituals of thanks. Don’t miss the Sacred Nap experience: A relaxing “air nap” in an aerial silk hammock, soothed to sleep by Fera as she shares the life story of Buddha. The retreat requires a minimum three-night stay, but can be personalized to fit your needs and schedule.

Focus on peak performance

Channel your inner athlete during a three- or seven-day In Census retreat at Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues Geneva, created in collaboration with the prestigious Hôpital de la Tour in Geneva, a recognized Swiss Olympic Medical Center. The word incensus means “radiant” in Latin, and that’s how you’ll feel after a run along the shores of Lake Geneva, a hike up Mount Salève, a massage, a meditation session and a carefully prepared organic meal. Each retreat begins with an in-depth health consultation with blood tests, nutritional and osteopathic evaluations, and muscle strength and endurance assessments, and core programs include Detox and Weight Management, Muscle Development or Sports Performance. “My mission is to help you invest in yourself,” says Spa Director Margaux Poilvet. “In Census encourages participants to take care of their bodies and get back into shape, escape the stress of everyday life, and recover vital energy thanks to a 360-degree approach that encompasses both physical and mental wellness.”

Ocean-based therapy

Four Seasons Resort Seychelles taps into the healing powers of the sea with its new two- and three-day Ocean Connection Spa Journeys. “There is no set itinerary,” says Spa Therapist Pamela Dewkee. “The idea is to allow guests to be able to enjoy the treatments and sessions over a span of days, so the essence of relaxation and rejuvenation is carried from one day to another.” Treatments include a sea smoothing wrap, crystal ocean facial, and yoga on the beach, where guests are encouraged to let emotions flow without judgment, just like the flow of water. A highlight is the nightly Starlit Serenity experience, on Le Syel Spa’s rooftop and overlooking Petite Anse Bay. As the sea breeze sings and the stars shine, a therapist will perform a Shell Serenity Massage using a shell-shaped object filled with marine minerals and sea kelp to warm and relax the body.
