Journeys That Soothe the Soul

We often turn to travel as a way to escape the daily grind – a chance to relax, recharge and return home refreshed and ready to face new challenges. To make it happen, maintain balance and reconnect body, mind and spirit during a session with an expert residential healer: Focus on the spiritual plane in New York, discover mindfulness through mandalas in Hong Kong, clear mental clutter with a life coach in Los Angeles. Here are some of our favourite Four Seasons experiences that immerse you in transformative teachings.

A Spiritual Journey in New York

In the heart of busy New York’s Tribeca neighbourhood – bustling with artists, restaurants and chic shops – discover a calming oasis at Four Seasons Hotel New York Downtown, where an entire floor is dedicated to the fitness and well-being of both body and mind. Develop your spiritual awareness and personal enlightenment in a one-on-one session with one of the Hotel’s Resident Healers, offering services like acupuncture, clairvoyant readings, astrological readings, sonic alchemy and hypnosis, all tailored to your needs. Heal your spiritual plane and reintegrate spirit with your true purpose and passion with Dr Deganit Nuur, or explore the healing power of sound with Michelle Pirret: Her sonic alchemy sessions pair her four-octave vocal range with instruments like alchemy singing bowls and archaic gongs to shift negative energy and discord away from the body. And allow renowned New York City astrologer Rebecca Gordon to chart your stars – based on the exact time of your birth, your planetary alignment may offer guidance to help you meet life’s challenges.

Mindfulness in Hong Kong

Achieve a greater sense of balance at Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong, where wellness offerings in the Spa include lessons in breathwork and lifestyle consultations with Dr Tania Bardhan; guided meditations using vibrational sound therapy; and the ancient Chinese art of tai chi, led by the Hotel’s resident master. Hotel workshops teach mindfulness skills to help you continue your practice when you’ve returned home. Our recommendation? Learn the art of being present with the Mindful Mala Making and Mandala art workshops. Hone your focus as you carefully craft a string of counting beads – known as japa mala necklaces – to use during yoga or meditation sessions, or colour bright mandalas to learn to be present in the moment and discover clarity. Children can make their own japa mala necklaces or mandalas, discovering focus and clarity while expressing their creativity. You’re never too young to appreciate the art of self-care.

Rhythm in Madrid

The strumming of a guitar, the rapid-fire percussion of castanets, the quick tap of a dancer’s toes: In Madrid, flamenco strikes all the right notes. Inscribed on the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage for Humanity, the distinctive dance originated in the southernmost Spanish province of Andalusia, but you can easily enjoy it during your staycation at Four Seasons Hotel Madrid. Head to one of the nearby flamenco bars or tablaos to watch as skilled dancers stamp their feet and swirl their skirts alongside locals, then find your own rhythm during a private lesson with a professional dancer, arranged by the Hotel. As you learn the basic steps and fluid gestures associated with the dance, you’ll no doubt feel the pasiòn rising, just like a proud Madrileño.

New Flavours in Buenos Aires

If you consider Paris and Milan to be the pre-eminent bastions of café society, add another. Buenos Aires elevates coffee culture to an art form, demonstrated in its abundance of cafés, where you can order a café (espresso), cortado (espresso cut with cream) or cafeen jarrito (double espresso). Coffee aficionados will enjoy a lesson from a barista at Four Seasons Hotel Buenos Aires: Using the Hotel’s exclusive blend of beans, learn the importance of coarse or fine grinds, water temperature, filtering and timing as you brew the perfect cup – and then create your own work of art in the crema atop your drink.

7 Pet-Friendly Escapes:
The Dog Diaries

There are nearly 4.4 billion pet owners worldwide – more than half of the global population. Most consider their animals part of the family. And because any passionate pet owner considers their furry friend a familiar comfort, Four Seasons does everything possible to welcome them with five-star service in some of the world’s most remarkable destinations.

A woman in a straw hat sits with a black dog on the beach

Jennifer Nelson, front office manager at Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas at Las Colinas, has been a Four Seasons team member for 22 years. Her dogs, Bernard, a Shih Tzu, and Charlie Ann, a rambunctious boxer, have reaped the benefits.

“They are some spoiled pups,” Nelson says. “Charlie and Bernard visited Four Seasons properties in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Vail, San Francisco, Scottsdale and Dallas. Your pups always have a cosy Four Seasons doggy bed awaiting them – and no, they do not need to share, they each get their own. If you order In-Room Dining, ask for the puppy menus, as most Four Seasons have a special menu just for your pups.

“Nothing brings me more joy as the front office manager than when a guest checks in with their furry friends. You see the staff instantly light up. It is not just a convenience and luxury for the guest, it also brings the team instant smiles daily.”

If your pet can’t tag along on your trip, Four Seasons provides plenty of opportunities for you to meet and interact with other cuddly creatures during your stay.

Four Seasons Hotel Megève

Guests at Four Seasons Hotel Megève can build a special relationship with dogs in the wilderness. “I find our dogsledding activity to be much more than just a riding experience: You get to see the herd from within, understand the hierarchy among those furry athletes, as they get ready to run,” says General Manager Stéphane Gras. “Then, sitting low and cuddling in the sled, the adrenaline keeps on increasing as the pace picks up; after a few seconds of adjustments, you just enjoy the beautiful white surroundings – do not get surprised if you start shouting with joy.

“At the end of the ride, you get to assist the expert musher as he checks on the herd and gets ready to feed them – sun gets down, a bit of yapping, the herd is getting ready to sleep in the middle of the birch grove.”

Four Seasons Hotel Toronto

“When I look at our treats, I cannot help but think of Oliver, who visited us from New York City,” says Carolina Avaria, Chef Concierge and past president, Les Clefs d’Or Canada. “His human was so happy to know that while he was away on business, Oliver was more than comfortable and safe within his suite. Oliver loved his setup, especially his plush dog bed, treats, fresh water and, of course, belly rubs in the lobby. Every time I meet a four-legged VIP, our treats make us immediate best friends.” Guests Daniel and Julio Reyes says their dog, Canela, is just as excited to stay at Four Seasons Hotel Toronto as they are, thanks to the personalized pet attention. “From the thoughtful snacks to a dedicated area all to herself in the room, it’s truly a luxurious experience for us all,” they say. “It’s important to know that we can trust the Hotel to ensure that our little family feels pampered and taken care of in the best way possible.”

Dog sled mushes through snow

If you’ve had to leave your dog at home, Four Seasons Resort and Residences Vail has you covered. “One of my favourite guest experiences is dogsledding with Winterhawk Dog Sled Adventures,” says General Manager Meredith Macfarlane. “This is an unbelievable experience. You have the opportunity to meet the Alaskan husky pack prior to the sledding adventure, and then you’re whisked through the forest and fully surrounded by the Rocky Mountains, with unbelievable views of Mount Elbert, Colorado’s tallest peak. Following the adventure, hot cocoa is served to the guests while the staff photographers share the images they captured.”

Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire, England

Guest Lauren Amiri lives in Europe and says it’s been a struggle to find pet-friendly luxury in the U.K. Then she discovered Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire. “It feels like a home away from home, and one of the most luxurious dog-friendly hotels we have experienced,” she says. “Upon arrival to our beautiful suite, we found Beignet had been left bowls, some bottled water, treats and a food sachet along with a sumptuous tartan and corded bed that he dived into immediately. We were able to take him for long, scenic walks and enjoy the library area for tea all together afterwards with him curled up on the rug and the staff going the extra mile to accommodate him. It’s also lovely to see the other guests enjoy having a dog around. So many people came up to us to pet him and enquire as to his breed.”

Bringing Home the World

Experienced travellers know that the best trips don’t end when you arrive home; instead, the journey continues as you reflect on your experiences. That’s one reason we bring home souvenirs – tangible reminders of new destinations, cultures and connections.

Here, Four Seasons experts share some of their favourite ways to explore, plus the souvenirs you can’t go home without.

Vibrant Fabrics in Kyoto

“Furoshiki, a traditional Japanese wrapping cloth, is one of the most useful souvenirs you could take home,” says Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto Manager Katsuyuki Takahashi. “Furoshiki are eco-friendly, and their designs and uses are endless. Use one to wrap a wine bottle or gift you’re bringing home from one of the many shops in Kyoto, or partake in the Japanese tradition of tsutsumu – the wrapping of goods to respect and protect them. Head to Karakusaya, a furoshiki specialty shop just a short train ride from the Hotel, where they occasionally hold wrapping classes.”

A New Season in Napa: Fall Fashion
Inspired by Wine Country

California’s Napa Valley is ideally suited for Cabernet Sauvignon grapes: The region offers a sunny, warm climate; good drainage; and volcanic soils that add an earthy, rich complexity to its wines. At the new Four Seasons Resort and Residences Napa Valley, where the vineyard is protected by the Palisades mountains and oak-covered hills, world-class winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown and his team at the on-site Elusa Winery have carefully designed and planted it to intensify the grapes’ flavour. Take part in the winemaking process, from harvesting grapes to blending and ageing the wine, or learn about Calistoga’s unique terroir during a tasting session – the Resort provides the most complete grape-to-glass experience in Napa.

“The moment guests step foot on the property, they are welcomed into an extraordinary wine country oasis,” says General Manager Mehdi Eftekari. “Awe-inspiring views of the vineyards and Palisades Mountains are an idyllic backdrop to enriching experiences at TRUSS Restaurant + Bar and Elusa Winery. In guests’ suites, the vines are mere inches from their terraces and balconies.”

The dramatic scenery of North America’s wine capital – and the Resort, set to open later this year – also provide an idyllic background for the season’s most stylish new fashions. The looks pair perfectly with the Resort’s natural colour palette, rich textures and easy elegance.
