- For one of the most rewarding paddleboarding experiences on Oahu, glide across the glassy surface of Ko Olina Lagoon 1 with a complimentary stand-up paddleboard from the resort’s beach kiosk. The reef-protected lagoon’s stillness makes it ideal for first-timers.

- The resort’s Ulua Lagoon offers one of the most accessible snorkelling experiences in Ko Olina, with green sea turtles, parrotfish and yellow tangs gathering along the rocky points that frame the lagoon. Complimentary snorkel sets are available at the beach kiosk. For deeper reefs, our Concierge can arrange a charter from the neighbouring Ko Olina Marina.

Four Seasons Resort Oahu is on Lagoon 1, also known as Kohola Lagoon, the northernmost of the four Ko Olina lagoons. Kohola means “humpback whale” in Hawaiian – a fitting name given the migrating humpbacks visible offshore between November and March.
Ko Olina has four protected white sand man-made lagoons, sheltered from the open ocean by rocky breakwaters. From north to south they are Kohola (Lagoon 1), Honu (Lagoon 2), Nai‘a (Lagoon 3) and Ulua (Lagoon 4), connected by a 1.5-mile (2.4-kilometer) seaside path that links all four.
Yes, all four Ko Olina lagoons are open to the public for swimming from sunrise to sunset. Each has calm protected water suitable for families and beginner swimmers. There are no on-duty lifeguards, so guests swim at their own risk. Lagoon 1 is the closest entry point for Resort guests.
Makaha Beach is roughly 14 miles (23 kilometers) north of the Resort along Farrington Highway, a 25-minute coastal drive past Pokai Bay. Our Concierge can arrange a private car, rental car or guided surf transfer. Public bus service via TheBus also runs along this corridor for budget travel.
Yes, the breakwaters protecting the four lagoons create some of the most accessible year-round snorkelling on Oahu. Beginners and children can spot reef fish and the occasional green sea turtle along the rocky outer edges. Visibility is at its best during the summer months when the water is calmest.
Yes, complimentary stand-up paddleboards are available daily from the Beach Services team on Lagoon 1. Reservations are not required and a short orientation can be arranged for first-time paddlers through the Beach and Water Sports team.
