Meet the Team

Derek Stevenson

Sommelier
Derek Stevenson seeks to discover the great wines of California, particularly the greater Napa Valley area, with a special focus on the Calistoga region to support the community and celebrate the talented individuals who have invested their life’s work in the dynamic wine industry. A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America at Hyde Park, Stevenson brings a food-first philosophy to wine pairing, a perspective that helped earn Auro its first Michelin star in 2023. Certified by the Court of Master Sommeliers at age 23, Stevenson has since transitioned to the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET), where he is currently pursuing Diploma-level certification. Under his guidance, Wine Spectator recognized Auro with a Best of Award of Excellence in 2025 for the third consecutive year. Known for making wine approachable without sacrificing sophistication, Stevenson believes the story behind a vintage is as essential as what's in the glass.
