Leading the classes is Chef Anak Agung Kristya Yudha (Kris), the dedicated, full-time Head Chef of Jimbaran Bay Cooking Academy. A Balinese native who has been preparing delicious meals for Four Seasons guests for over 20 years, Chef Kris is passionate with a charming sense of humor and enjoys engaging with students and sharing his knowledge of Indonesian cuisine and culture. He personally conducts the tours of Jimbaran Fish Market – about 10 minutes from Four Seasons – to not only show guests how locals shop for seafood and fresh produce, but to provide fascinating insights into the traditional heritage of our seaside village.
Watch the traditional jukung boats being unloaded and women expertly balancing baskets of fresh seafood on their heads to take the morning's catch up the beach to the market. Upon return to the resort, Chef Kris will help you pick indigenous ingredients from the academy’s herb and spice garden, including Thai lemon basil, tamarind, pandan leaf, ginger and garlic, before you get down to business in the state-of-the-art kitchen.
Housed within its own stand-alone building, the Jimbaran Bay Cooking Academy features a charming stone-paved courtyard and herb garden at its entrance. Enormous glass doors lead into the air-conditioned kitchen, equipped with gleaming state-of-the-art appliances and a large, kidney-shaped, black granite preparation unit with induction hot plates. Sample your creations at the communal dining table or outdoors in the shaded courtyard.
