Yes, summer is one of the most picturesque seasons on West Lake, with lotuses in bloom from early summer to September. June is warm but ahead of the deepest heat and quieter than the school holiday rush, while our gardens and lakeside pavilions are at their greenest all season.
July and August are the hottest months, with days often well above 30º C (86 F), high humidity and passing summer showers. We recommend visiting the lake in the early morning and evening, when it’s at its calmest and coolest. Spend your afternoons in the shade of our bamboo gardens, at the pool or with a cooling treatment at The Spa.
Lotus flowers bloom across West Lake from early summer to September. Lotus in the Breeze at Quyuan Garden, one of the lake's famed Ten Scenes, is the classic viewing spot and a boat ride on the lake brings you close to the blooms at water level.
Plum rain season brings soft mist to Hangzhou in June. It’s the perfect time to treat yourself to our Dragon Well Tea and Jade Spring Ritual at The Spa or afternoon tea at the Lobby Lounge.
Summer days fill easily here with morning visits to the Longjing tea plantation, guided city tours of Hangzhou’s UNESCO sites, stand-up paddleboard yoga in the pool, and strolls through our 9 acres of gardens and lily ponds. Evenings belong to the lake.
Yes, families are warmly welcomed in the summer, and the heat is easy to manage here. Kids For All Seasons runs supervised programs indoors; the game room houses an array of gaming consoles for the hottest hours; and our gardens, lagoon and three-bedroom villas give children space to explore during the cooler parts of the day.
