Yes, autumn is widely considered one of the most beautiful seasons in Hangzhou. From September to November the weather is mild, osmanthus scents the city and foliage colours the lakeshore. The first week of October is a national holiday and the busiest time.
Osmanthus, Hangzhou’s official city flower, blooms from mid-September through October, filling gardens and the lakeshore with its sweet fragrance. It’s the perfect time for afternoon tea at Lobby Lounge or a stroll through our bamboo forest.
Autumn colour arrives later in Hangzhou than many visitors expect. Leaves begin turning around West Lake in late October, but the ginkgo and maple trees are at their richest through mid- to late-November. A boat ride on the lake allows you to take in the scenery, and our gardens hold their colour into early winter.
The Mid-Autumn Festival is Hangzhou’s moon-viewing season. West Lake is its most storied setting, with Three Pools Mirroring the Moon among China’s most celebrated lunar scenes. Our lakeside location and gardens create a place of wonder to watch the moon rise and savour seasonal dining at Jin Sha.
October is one of Hangzhou’s most comfortable months, with mild, drier days in the high teens to low 20s, though early October can still feel warm. Light layers with a jacket for the evening suit the season well, making it ideal walking and cycling weather.
Yes, autumn is an optimal season for visiting tea villages. The Longjing plantations stay green well into autumn, the walking weather is at its best and the villages are quieter than in spring harvest season. Our guided tea plantation tour takes you to Meijiawu village, just a short drive from our Hotel.
