Cycling Fantasy Camp
Insanely beautiful scenery, wicked hills, ideal weather, low traffic: the only thing surprising about Maui as the site of a world-class cycling camp is time it took to realize just how perfect it is. Elite professional cyclists are beginning to discover the island as a home base for training, and now enthusiastic recreational riders can too, with one of two seven-day, one-of-a-kind cycling camps.
Helmed by Tour de France veteran and Canadian Olympian Ryder Hesjedal and coordinated by Go Cycle Maui, the camp more than earns its “fantasy camp” label with championship guidance from Hesjedal (and, more often than not, some of his top-ranking cycling buddies), the same kind of training sessions that pro cyclists do, full mechanic service and on-ride support, daily massages, an extensive swag bag and eight nights accommodation (plus breakfast and lunch) at Four Seasons Resort Maui. As one rider put it, “Every day I’ve said ‘this is the nicest ride I’ve been on in my life’ – and this is Day 4 of me saying that.” No wonder the camp slogan is “Cycling Paradise.”
