Once a thriving coconut plantation, Desroches Island in the Seychelles now offers pristine beaches steeped in history. Walk the sands where plantation workers once named the bays, explore hidden coves at sunrise and savour fresh bites at a beachside food truck. From the northern tip to the quiet shores, every step on Desroches’ beaches tells a story of island life, heritage and paradise.
A Coral Island with a Story
Long before people arrived, Desroches took shape as a natural masterpiece – a coral island rising from a submerged volcanic crater and perfected over thousands of years. Layer by layer, coral built the soft white sands and tranquil lagoons that now frame some of the best beaches in the Seychelles. Beneath the waves, vibrant reefs teem with tropical fish and graceful rays, while above, time seems to stand still. As you wander the shores, every wave tells a quiet story of an island beautifully shaped by nature.
Best Beaches: Where History Meets Horizon
These three beaches are Desroches’ most beloved – each with a legacy that adds depth to its natural beauty.

Madame Zabre Beach Named after Madame Zabbe (later known as Zabre) – a freed slave who chose solitude here in the 19th century – this beach is a haven of calm. She built a life away from the village, finding solace in the rustle of coconut palms and the rhythm of the Ivorian Sea. Today, her spirit of tranquillity lingers.

Bombay Beach This curved bay’s name is a journey through time: 19th-century workers first called it “bonne baie” (French for “good bay”) for its sheltered waters. Over decades, the name softened to “Bombé” (for its rounded shape) before evolving into “Bombay” – a playful nod to Desroches’ multicultural tapestry.

Pointe Hélène (North Point) As Desroches’ northernmost point, Pointe Hélène is steeped in Seychelles’ history: It’s named for “Hélène,” the ship that brought the archipelago’s first settlers. Today, it’s a gateway to nature’s wonders.
More Desroches Beaches: Adventure & Seclusion
Craving something off the beaten path? These shores offer privacy, adventure and unique charm – all just a short bike ride or guided trip from our Resort.

Aquarium Beach A 20-minute bike ride from the Resort, this beach lives up to its name: Its sheltered waters are so clear that it feels like swimming in a giant aquarium with sea turtles and rays. On days when trade winds pick up, gentle waves roll in – perfect for beginner surfers.

Reef End Beach Tucked away on the island’s eastern edge, this beach is for those who seek quiet. With no crowds, endless sand and the sound of waves, it’s ideal for a solo meditation session, a romantic walk or a nap under a palm tree.

La Passe Hodoul This hidden cove is only accessible by a winding tree-lined path – and that’s part of the magic. Bike through lush greenery, spot tropical flowers and island wildlife, and emerge to a quiet beach with soft sand and calm water. It’s pure privacy.

La Passe Therese Nestled behind Desroches’ fruit and vegetable farm, this beach faces east, making it the best spot for catching the sunrise (think fiery oranges and pinks over the sea). When the swell is right, strong and consistent waves make it a favourite among experienced surfers.
