- The Resort is certified to EarthCheck Gold certified, a third-party certification program for hospitality properties.
- Bicycles are available for guest use.
- The Resort measures and tracks energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, water use and waste generation through the Four Seasons global utility management system.
- Vegan and vegetarian menu items are available.
- Linens and towels are replaced every third day, unless otherwise requested.
- The Resort includes on-site solar generation infrastructure that supplies electricity for operations, including a rooftop solar installation comprising 3,105 panels spanning approximately 5,380 square metres (57,910 square feet).
- Guest room controls and building systems support optimizing energy consumption throughout the property, including the use of water heat pumps in all guest rooms.
- LED lighting is in place throughout the Resort.
- Single-use plastics, including water bottles, bathroom amenities and takeaway food packaging, have been removed or replaced with non-plastic alternatives.
- An on-site water filtration and bottling system reduces waste from water bottles.
- Since 2016, the Resort has collaborated with Parley for the Oceans to collect and recycle plastic waste, which is used in the production of sportswear and other products.
- A recycling program is in place.
- Organic waste is diverted from landfill, including through on-site composting.
- The Resort maintains an on-site garden that supplies herbs and produce for use in kitchen, bar and spa operations, including basil, mint, lemongrass, butterfly pea flower, cofi leaves, chilli and breadfruit.
- The Resort maintains an on-site mushroom house that supplies a variety of mushrooms for use in kitchen operations, including white, grey and pink oyster mushrooms and abalone mushrooms.
- Seasonal menu items are available, including ingredients sourced from local suppliers, and approximately 90% of fish served is sourced from suppliers based in the Maldives.
- The Resort serves island-produced cage-free eggs (chicken, duck and quail).
- A food waste reduction program is in place, including AI-enabled tools to identify, monitor and reduce food waste.
- The Resort supports marine conservation initiatives through its Marine Discovery Centre, where 15 on-island marine biologists lead programmes focused on coral reef restoration, turtle rehabilitation, manta ray research, fish breeding, and education, including a longstanding collaboration with Reefscapers that has facilitated the deployment of hundreds of thousands of coral frames in the waters surrounding Landaa.
- The government-licensed Turtle Rehabilitation Centre has treated hundreds of turtles over the past decade, returning many to the wild and rehoming non-releasable turtles through the Flying Turtles programme.
- The Resort's Maldivian Manta Ray Project (MMRP), the founding project of The Manta Trust, has identified the world's largest known manta ray population and contributes data to manta ray research and conservation efforts.
- The Trainee Marine Biologist Programme, developed in collaboration with Maldives National University (MNU), is a fully funded four-year Marine and Environmental Science apprenticeship that provides teenagers and young adults from local communities with classroom-based and practical learning opportunities focused on the marine environment.
- More than 35,000 trees have been planted through the Four Seasons Maldives Tree Plantation Project in collaboration with TIST India and Rehoboth Sustainability.
- The Resort hosts periodic beach clean ups that are open to employees.
- Guests can engage in educational tours at local, natural, cultural, historical or heritage sites to learn more about the local community.
- Local artists and artisans are featured throughout the Resort, including works by lacquerware artisans from Thulaadhoo, Maldivian women painters and Bodu Beru (big drum) performances.
- Employees complete annual Human Trafficking Awareness training.
- Over 1,000 young Maldivians have graduated from the government-accredited Four Seasons Resorts Maldives Hospitality Apprenticeship Program.
- The Resort prioritizes sourcing from suppliers that meet our environmental and social procurement criteria outlined in the Environment and Social Sustainability Policy.
- Suppliers are encouraged to reduce unnecessary packaging.
