Day 2 – The Practice of Stillness

Morning
Buddhist Temple Visit
This morning takes you into the living heart of Kyoto’s Buddhist tradition, with a guide who has dedicated his life to the study and practice of Shingon Buddhism and Shugendō. The session begins with an introduction to meditation: a practical, unhurried invitation to sit with your own breath and the silence of the room. A private Dharma talk follows, in which your guide shares Buddhist philosophy not as doctrine but through the lens of his own decades of practice. The morning concludes with a Shōjin Ryōri lunch – the seasonal vegetarian cuisine of the monastery kitchen – where every ingredient and every preparation is itself a form of practice.

Afternoon
Behind the Scenes of a Kimono Atelier
After a morning spent in stillness, we lead you into one of Kyoto’s most closely held creative traditions: kimono fabric artistry. Nishijin weaving and Kyo-yuzen silk-dyeing are born and sustained in this city, with many of their remaining masters working quietly in studios that are rarely open to visitors. In this exclusive experience, we invite you into a private atelier, where you’ll be introduced to the artisan’s process and invited to participate in the craft. You’ll leave with a keepsake as unique as the memories you create.

Signature Experience
Shimogamo Shrine Prayer
Step beyond the role of a visitor and discover the living traditions of Shinto, Japan’s indigenous spiritual path. Guided by a Shinto priest, this private experience offers a rare opportunity to explore the beliefs, rituals and values that have shaped Japanese culture for centuries. As you walk through the shrine grounds and access areas normally closed to the public, you will gain a deeper understanding of this unique worldview and its enduring connection to everyday life in Japan. More than a historical tour, this experience invites you to slow down, reflect and reconnect with nature, tradition and spiritual well-being. The journey culminates with a traditional Gokitō blessing ceremony, during which a Shinto priest offers prayers on your behalf for peace, health, prosperity or safe travels.

Sound Bath and Spa Meditation
As afternoon arrives, we invite you to carry the day’s stillness deeper. It begins with a soothing foot bath infused with Himalayan salt and roasted green tea: a moment of quiet arrival. Singing bowl vibrations follow, their resonance creating a gradual settling of the mind and body. A full-body signature massage carries you further into stillness, and the experience closes with a final sound ceremony – a gentle return from wherever the practice took you.
