GENSUI is inspired by two concepts: “GEN” (the hidden colours within deep black, symbolizing mystery and tradition as seen in ink-inspired carpets and calligraphy ceilings) and “SUI” (translating to water, reflecting Osaka’s rivers through flowing designs and serene views). Together, they create a harmonious blend of culture and nature.
A Hidden Ryokan Above the City
Tucked away within our Hotel, the floor offers just 21 rooms out of 175, crafted for guests who value privacy and genuine Japanese hospitality. Experience the charm of a traditional inn while enjoying panoramic views of Osaka’s cityscape – an exceptional sight, seldom seen in typical ryokan yet exclusively available here.

At GENSUI, each room begins with a doma – a traditional space where entrants remove shoes before stepping onto the soft tatami flooring. This quiet ritual invites guests to slow down, connect with the space and experience the Japanese way of living from the moment they arrive.

Designed with Fluid Elegance
Defining features of the design are graceful curves that evoke the gentle flow of water. They appear throughout the space – in corridors, handrails, guest rooms and beyond to create a harmonious atmosphere.
Traditional Comfort with a Modern Touch
The room’s raised step serves as a traditional Japanese engawa – a veranda as an alternative to chairs where you can sit comfortably. The tatami mats recreate a classic Japanese–style room, making the experience of sitting on cushions or kneeling more accessible and familiar to modern-day guests.
A Bathroom Inspired by Traditional Japanese Baths
The bathroom evokes a traditional Japanese inn atmosphere, featuring Japanese-style accessories reminiscent of public bathhouse culture. After a long day, a soak in the large bathtub washes away all of your fatigue.
Relax in a Yukata
Enhance your stay with the gentle comfort of a traditional yukata, a casual cotton kimono typically worn for relaxation or after bathing. Thoughtfully provided in every GENSUI room, a yukata invites you to unwind and embrace the soothing rhythm of Japanese living. You’re also welcome to wear your in-room yukata when visiting the SABO Lounge.
Innovative Mattress Design for The Perfect Sleep
Rest easy with a mattress from a long-established bedding manufacturer based in Osaka, dedicated to promoting quality sleep and health. Their mattresses are designed to support the body’s pressure points evenly in three dimensions, making it easier to turn over during sleep, stabilizing the body for a restful night. The mattresses are exclusively designed for our Hotel and only available on the GENSUI floor.
An Art Gallery Floor
Immerse yourself in a space where art and atmosphere blend seamlessly. Featuring approximately 30 art pieces, the floor showcases works crafted from natural driftwood, shaped by nature and reflecting the flowing essence of water. No two pieces are alike, offering a quiet journey of discovery at every turn.

- Dress Code: Smart casual; guests are asked to refrain from wearing slippers.
- Child Policy: Children are welcome at SABO, but they must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
- Alcohol Policy: Alcoholic beverages are served exclusively to guests ages 20 and over.
- Reservations: Tables are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Guest Access Policy: Guests staying in a GENSUI room may invite one in-house guest staying on a non-GENSUI floor per day at a rate of JPY 13,000 per person, inclusive of service charges and taxes.
- SABO Lounge Access Policy: SABO Lounge access is complimentary for up to two guests; a fee applies for the third guest.
- Non-Operation Hours: Guests can check in at reception on the first floor after SABO’s operating hours.
