Romantic Getaways Around the World
Take your love story on the road: From dining with elephants in the Serengeti to touring Bora Bora by private yacht, here are top ways for couples to get away – and get closer.
There’s no bonding experience for couples quite like travelling the world and discovering the unfamiliar together.
Maybe you’re planning to celebrate Valentine’s Day or simply want to spend quality time away from home. Where to go? One-of-a-kind romantic getaways can’t be had just anywhere. Consider taking a moonlit dip in Austin, or riding in a horse-drawn carriage over the rolling green hills of Hampshire, England. Here are 15 destinations that offer couples impressive reasons to head their way.
Soak in Splendour in the Seychelles
Heat things up in your jungle-side villa at Four Seasons Resort Seychelles by steeping in a deep-soaking tub overlooking a wrap-around infinity pool and Petite Anse bay – a haven for romantics, marked by picturesque sunsets and powdery sand. Say the word and the Resort’s Bath Butler will prepare your bath, where you can soak in eucalyptus-scented and ylang ylang–infused water as you sip Champagne and feed one another fresh strawberries. “This is truly an unparalleled setting for couples to enjoy indulgent relaxation together,” says Jean Malubdos, Assistant Spa Manager, “and they may choose from a menu of bath rituals to suit their mood.”
Swim Under the Stars in Maui
Guests at Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea don’t have to go far to find romance. With the Resort’s Serenity Pool After Hours package, reserve the adults-only pool to swim under the stars and enjoy a private dinner together. From dusk until dawn, the entire 2,650-square-foot (246-square-metre) pool is all yours, as well as the six luxury cabanas outfitted with flat-screen HD TVs.
Another sweet exploit at the Resort appeals to food-focused duos: In their Taste of Island Life experience, couples will ride a helicopter to Ono Organic Farms to try exotic fruits with Executive Chef Craig Dryhurst. They’ll swim in nearby waterfalls and explore black sand beaches before heading back for a delicious finale: a multi-course dinner, made from your organic garden selections, at a private table beside the ocean. “One of the best ways to connect is by experiencing new things together,” says Chef Concierge Sam Wilhelm. “A Taste of Island Life is perfect for couples who love food and adventure. And because this particular experience is set in Hana, where I grew up, it has a special place in my heart. I love sharing this magical town with couples looking for a once-in-a-lifetime culinary adventure.”
Capture Instagrammable Photos in Lisbon
Guests at Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon can capture the European charm of Portugal’s capital city during a private four-hour photography tour aboard a vintage motorcycle. Take a seat in the sidecar or directly behind your expert driver, and a professional photographer will lead you through winding cobblestone streets to the city’s top sites.
“The Pombaline-style architecture, the terra cotta rooftops and azulejo façades, the glorious Tagus river and the 25th of April suspension bridge are some of Lisbon’s most appealing features,” says Head Concierge Luis Miguel. His advice: Book the tour for early morning to make use of Lisbon’s prettiest light. At any time of day, though, “It’s the most authentic way to discover the city’s many fascinating twists and turns, hotspots and history.”
Relax With a Couple’s Massage on Mauritius or in Westlake Village
The After Eight Spa and Gourmet experience at Four Seasons Resort Mauritius at Anahita arranges exquisite downtime for you in a private spa treatment room over the water. Topping off your massage is a gourmet meal for two – all while the water sways serenely beneath you.
For another evening, book a private dinner prepared by Executive Sous-Chef Patrick Soochit on the sand at La Plaz, A Four Seasons exclusive beach on Île aux Cerfs. “La Plaz is so secluded in its setting, there is nothing but the gentle sound of lapping waters and a canopy of stars to distract you as you enjoy an incredible barefoot dinner,” says Ramana, Île Aux Cerfs Assistant Restaurant and Beach Manager.
Valentine’s Day is a particularly good time for a couple’s treatment at the 40,000-square-foot Spa at Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village, voted one of the top spas in America by Condé Nast Traveler. Spend alone time in private hot tubs and double showers, stroll arm in arm through the Pagoda Garden, gaze at the flickering fireplace as you cuddle on a cosy daybed. “Couples love our spa and find it a blissful escape,” says Akram Alkawasmeh, Senior Spa Therapist. “I always recommend a spa suite for couples. The suites feature private soaking tubs, in-suite fireplaces, an outdoor dipping pool and plenty of privacy.”
Dine in the Wilds of the Serengeti
Imagine this: At sunset during your stay at Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti, you and your partner are led to a table overlooking an active animal watering hole on the Serengeti Plains. The sun slips behind the horizon as you watch elephants and other fauna carry on with their lives, unique accompaniment to the four-course dinner your waiter serves – which might include smoked paprika beef carpaccio or lemon cheesecake with dried meringue and brandy snap. “Time truly feels like it stands still in Serengeti,” says Executive Chef Lucas Julien-Vauzelle. “Far removed from the day to day, it is the perfect place to spend quality time together and connect over incredible food in an unforgettable setting.”
Have a Celestial Picnic in Scottsdale
There are few more charming sights for couples than starry skies. At Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North, you can ask the Resort’s professional astronomer to join you – or simply borrow a telescope – to take in an unbelievable view of the Sonoran Desert skies during your own night-time picnic. “Set apart from the city lights in the desert foothills, this is an ideal spot to sip a cocktail and view a spectacular sunset, and then watch as twinkling stars begin to blanket the sky,” says Resort Concierge Susy Alpert. “It’s magical.”
Live a Fairy Tale in Hampshire
Standing with dignity amid the castle-dotted green hills of Hampshire in the United Kingdom, Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire offers some unusual guest amenities: Hunter Wellington boots and Barbour jackets, ready for your exploration of the 500-acre estate. Don’t feel like a walk? The Hotel maintains a fleet of horse-drawn carriages, so you can survey the grounds like royalty. Come dinnertime, “you can’t beat a private dining experience on our canal boat,” says Duncan Hamilton, Concierge Manager. “We’ll take you down to the Basingstoke Canal, create a menu of your choosing and ensure you have a romantic memory to treasure for a lifetime.”
Take a Moonlit Dip in Austin
New on the Spa menu at Four Seasons Hotel Austin: the romantic Full Moon Dip Experience. Offered every full moon (for a Valentine’s Day–timed treat, you’ll want to book the night of February 9), the treatment begins with a 50-minute couple’s massage using Moon Dip Body Mousse. Then, you’ll refresh yourselves in the Spa’s Relaxation Lounge with a Moonstone Cocktail. “Moonstone is a powerful crystal that is linked to many things, but most notably with love and intimacy,” says Spa Manager Stephanie Branch. “By having the crystal present in the cocktail, it’s thought that its vibrational energy will blend with your own and amplify these areas.” Afterwards, you’ll take a dip together in the Hotel’s heated pool by the poetic light of the moon. “Although this treatment could benefit anyone, it does have a particular draw for couples due to the full moon’s effect on love and attraction,” Branch says. “We tend to be more extroverted, intimate and romantic during this phase of the moon, so with a calm and positive mindset it can help you both manifest your desires.”
Dine High in the Sky in Dubai
Dine at the only venue offering panoramic views of both the Dubai city skyline with the Burj Khalifa and the Burj Al Arab: Mercury Lounge at Four Seasons Resort Dubai at Jumeirah Beach. The 7th Heaven dining experience gives couples private access to the entire sky-high outdoor lounge for an unforgettable evening. Tip: The restaurant’s signature dish – Wagyu beef tagliata marinated in Ruola Cress and Jerez jus, with a sprinkle of Parmesan – can set pulses racing.
Yacht Together in Bora Bora
Honeymooners and long-married couples alike are flocking to the six new overwater bungalow suites with plunge pools at Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora – but we’ll wager they won’t spend all their time in their rooms. Among the myriad special experiences for two offered at the Resort: chartering its Andreyale yachts for sailing the surrounding turquoise lagoons in view of Mount Otemanu. “One of the most memorable and romantic experiences couples can share in Bora Bora is a private sunset cruise,” says Etienne Baldeschi, Chef Concierge. “Your captain will anchor for the island’s ideal sunset viewing, and your bespoke menu is served.”Think Champagne and canapés – such as Tahitian Poisson Cru and Moorea shrimp with crispy gyoza. “We can also arrange for a musician, and a photographer or videographer to capture the magic of this special excursion.” As you sail, keep an eye out for spotted eagle rays, sea turtles and blacktip reef sharks in the glass-clear waters below.
Ride Horses to the Beach in Bali
Take a tour for two on horseback during a stay at Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay, where open-air villas were inspired by Baliense villages and face three pristine miles of sand. Insiders ride to Berawa Beach, passing tranquil rice paddies and spectacular ocean views along the way; afterwards, you both may enjoy a Four-Handed Harmony massage in the spa – which is exactly what it sounds like, and every bit as restorative.
Stargaze Mountainside in Jackson Hole
“There is something magical about travelling to Jackson Hole. The proximity to the mountains and access to wildlife and the vast open skies creates an intimate connection to one’s surroundings,” says Hope Maloney, Chef Concierge. Activities with romantic potential abound at Four Seasons Resort Jackson Hole, including elk-drawn sleigh rides in the National Elk Refuge, a pause for sipping bubbly in the Resort’s Champagne Igloo and guided snowshoe tours of Grand Teton National Park. “But what could be better than enjoying a night of stargazing, huddled under the warmth of blankets, sipping hot cocoa and viewing other galaxies, nebulas and beyond?” Answer: All that with the addition of a discreet astronomer, who will point out the most impressive constellations as you cuddle.
Take Off on a Scenic Drive From Milan
Travel back in time, and in style, behind the driver’s seat of a vintage Italian roadster while in Milan. You can channel Cary Grant in To Catch a Thief as you drive around scenic Lake Como in a 1961 Giulietta Spider, spotting lakeside villas, ancient villages and cinematic landscapes from the classic car. Bonus: You can pull over at your leisure to take in the view – and perhaps the view is of your happy, relaxed partner.
Relive Pretty Woman in Beverly Hills
If you feel there’s nothing more romantic than a shopping spree with your spouse, you’re in luck. Beverly Wilshire, A Four Seasons Hotel, is now offering a Pretty Woman for a Day package that will have you touring Rodeo Drive’s fashion houses behind the scenes (with your very own wardrobe stylist, naturally), taking a bath hand-drawn by the Bath Butler in your Specialty Suite, and having a couple’s massage in the Forbes Five-Star Spa. “We’ve seen this vibrant relationship with the movie that continues to flourish,” says Peter Humig, General Manager and Regional Vice President. “People from all over the world visit our Hotel to have their ‘Pretty Woman’ moment – whether to snap a quick photo outside our iconic façade; stay overnight in a suite; or sip on the “Feeling Pretty” cocktail, inspired by the movie, in THE Blvd.” We’ll drink a toast to true love.
