After spending nearly two decades together, Brian Roberts and Daniel Crawford wanted their wedding to feel like a Hollywood movie premiere—complete with a red carpet—and Four Seasons Hotel Seattle was the ideal A-list venue. “The staff is exceptional and the location quintessentially Northwest,” Brian says. “We knew that every detail would be handled with the style and grace synonymous with the legendary service of Four Seasons.” The couple said their “I do’s” in an intimate foyer at the Hotel as the sun set over Puget Sound, and then partied the night away at a glamorous reception in the Hotel’s ballroom.
The Scene: “We wanted each room at our wedding to be a surprise for our guests,” Daniel explains of he and Brian’s vision for the Hotel’s event spaces. The couple worked with their wedding vendors to ensure that each guest’s experience was consistent throughout the evening’s festivities, from the ceremony and celebratory cocktails to the formal dinner and dancing reception, which were coordinated in both colour (gold, silver and black, with a pop of red) and concept (“Tom Ford receives an Oscar presented by James Bond,” explains Brian). Guests arrived to a custom step-and-repeat emblazoned with Brian and Daniel’s “db” monogram and walked along a red carpet past movie posters featuring the couple’s engagement portraits. At the reception, tables set with silver and black linens and lush red rose centrepieces created the elegant and sleek look that the grooms had envisioned.
Magical Moment: The couple planned the ceremony décor to complement the beautiful views of the sunset over Puget Sound and the Seattle Great Wheel, but Seattle’s signature showers threatened to dampen the mood in the days leading up to the wedding. “It had been pouring rain all week long, until the night before our wedding. And on the night of our ceremony, as Reverend Mary was reading our vows, the sky did something amazing,” Daniel says. “It went through a series of deepening hues, from yellow twilight to pink, orange, and deep red and purple,” Brian adds. “I’ve lived in Seattle my entire life, and I don’t remember ever seeing a sunset like that.”
The Groom & Groom: After a chance meeting in a coffee shop in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighbourhood on New Year’s Eve in 1995, Brian and Daniel abandoned their evening plans to spend time with each other. They spent the next 18 years together—exchanging commitment rings on their 10th anniversary and later becoming registered domestic partners in Washington state—before they wed, surrounded by their friends and family, on October 5, 2013.
The Grooms Wore: Brian’s slim-fit Dolce & Gabbana tuxedo, velvet Gucci bow tie and Prada shoes elegantly complemented Daniel’s Armani Collezioni tuxedo, silk Prada tie and Tod’s patent loafers. In addition to their own personal accessories, the pair also sported matching David Yurman bracelets, Tag Heuer watches and Paul Smith polka-dot socks, and added sunglasses for their grand entrance to the reception.
A Personal Touch: For their Hollywood-inspired celebration, the grooms—who both work in the fashion industry—set up a Pinterest page full of style inspiration for all of their guests. “We wanted to make sure our guests knew what kind of event they should plan for,” Brian explains. “We wanted them to have fun and buy one of those ‘If I only wear it once and look fabulous, it will be worth it!’ outfits.”
