Growing Together - Volunteer Program
Since 2001, Península Papagayo, ownership group of Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo, has managed an award-winning social responsibility outreach program, Growing Together, fostered by the conviction that local communities should play an important role in their own development. Now, the Resort has partnered with Península Papagayo to offer guests rewarding civic opportunities within the local community, inspiring guests and groups to strive for a more meaningful travel experience.
Whether it is a family affair or a team building effort, we will custom-design a volunteer experience based on your goals, budget and the amount of time available. You have the opportunity to select excursions that aid in supporting the local schools, conserving the environment or adopting a family or a child during your stay. Volunteer experiences can include arts and crafts and reading to local school children, painting a school, or even bringing a backpack from home fillled with supplies for local school children. If you or your team chooses to adopt a family, we hope the bond is one that you will carry long after you leave the Resort.
Become a Backpack Buddy
Many of the children in the Guanacaste Province do not have enough money for school supplies or uniforms. Why not donate a backpack to a local school child? All you need to do is purchase a backpack, fill it with your favourite school supplies and bring it with you to the Resort. When you check-in, tell the agent you are a Backpack Buddy and we will give you a card to fill out with your street address and/or e-mail address and attach it to the backpack, so the recipient knows where the backpack came from. If you want, you can give the backpack to the child in person, pending school is in season.
School Outreach Programs
Growing Together works with 18 elementary schools and three high schools - that together teach 4,433 students - in a variety of projects, including building and landscaping maintenance; donation of teaching, sports, audiovisual and kitchen supplies; cooking and sharing meals and playing sports with students.
Family Care
Support a family with food, clothing, school supplies or toys for their kids by visiting their house, shopping together, sharing hours or a day with them and even inviting them to the Resort to share a meal or enjoy the Resort facilities. You can also support disabled individuals by purchasing medical supplies and providing food.
Sustainability Initiatives
You can help conserve resources by staying at Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo. From natural pheromone traps to the Terra-Mesh retaining walls, learn about our sustainability initiatives and how the Resort has implemented conservation measures throughout its facilities.
Reservations
The Resort is able to organise five programs a day for five families or five individuals. Please be aware there is limited availability. Pre-advance booking through reservations is required. Please reserve at time of booking or before your trip by calling the Resort directly at (506) 2696-0000.
If you would like to have the Resort provide an escort, a Four Seasons staff member will accompany you throughout the length of your volunteer program. Swiss Travel will provide transportation at a minimal cost based on the project.
