- The Resort has supported the planting of over 50,000 indigenous koa trees in collaboration with Hawaiian Legacy Reforestation Initiative.
- Electric vehicle (EV) charging stations are available for guest use.
- The Resort measures and tracks energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, water use and waste generation through Four Seasons global utility management system.
- Vegan and vegetarian menu items are available.
- Linens and towels are replaced every third day, unless otherwise requested.
- The Resort's pool uses salt technology as an alternative to chlorine.
- Guest room controls and building systems support optimizing energy consumption throughout the property.
- Building systems and fixtures support optimizing water consumption throughout the property.
- Irrigation and landscaping are designed to optimize water use.
- Single-use plastics, including water bottles, bathroom amenities and takeaway food packaging, have been removed or replaced with non-plastic alternatives.
- An on-site water filtration and bottling system from Boomerang Water reduces waste from water bottles.
- A recycling program is in place.
- Food waste is diverted from landfill through donation to local farmers for use as pig feed.
- Soaps and toiletries are recycled and donated to those in need through Clean the World.
- Over 75% of the Resort's food and beverage ingredients are sourced from local farmers, fisheries and purveyors.
- The Resort maintains an on-site garden and oyster pond that supplies fresh ingredients for use in kitchen operations.
- The Resort serves cage-free eggs.
- A food waste reduction program is in place, including AI-enabled tools to identify, monitor and reduce food waste.
- Waters off our coast have been declared a Marine Reserve to promote resilience in our reef.
- Our Natural Resources team works with the Ka‘upulehu Marine Life Advisory Committee (KMLAC) and the Nature Conservancy to monitor and manage our marine environment.
- Our Natural Resources team maintains the water quality in the delicate ecosystems of the anchialine ponds on the Resort property.
- Ocean conservation education is offered through our Alaka'i Nalu and Kumu Kai Marine Education Center.
- Guests have the option to donate to a local non-profit, Hawaiian Legacy Hardwoods, for each night spent at Hualalai.
- The Resort hosts periodic beach clean ups that are open to guests and employees.
- Complimentary reef-friendly sun care products are available for guests.
- Ocean conservation education offered to local schools on the island.
- Guests can engage in educational tours at local, natural, cultural, historical or heritage sites to learn more about the local community.
- Kupuna (Hawaiian elders) teach the whole family about local traditions.
- Local artists and artisans are featured throughout the Resort.
- Employees complete annual Human Trafficking Awareness training.
- Employees volunteer in the local community through fundraising and participation in Hawaii Island charitable events, community events for island clean-ups, children’s charities and food drives.
- The Resort prioritizes sourcing from suppliers that meet our environmental and social procurement criteria.
- Makana Honua bath products use ingredients sourced locally from Hawaii Island.
- Suppliers are encouraged to reduce unnecessary packaging.
