Seasonal Highlights
The Green Season | January – MarchAfter the short November/December rains, marvel at the herds as they converge on the Serengeti’s rich southern plains to graze ahead of the wildebeest calving season that begins in February.
Picture Time | April – MayFollowing the earlier rains, the park is lush and green, making the rich nature and clarity of the air perfect for photography. Snap away as the herds begin heading northward where they are often seen in central Serengeti.
Arid Landscape | June – JulyThrough lack of rain, the trees and plants begin to lose their colour, providing greater camouflage for big cat predators and keeping the herds on the move. Watch as the dense masses of wildebeest cross the Grumeti River or reach the very north of the park by July’s end.
The Dry Months | August – OctoberObserve the herds crossing the Mara River to reach Kenya’s Maasai Mara, where grazing is abundant. As the clouds begin to form once more over Serengeti, herds of wildebeest return across the river into central Serengeti.
The Short Rains | November – DecemberAs the much-needed rains begin, the migration returns southward through the Serengeti National Park. Witness the year-end movement toward the southern plains as the annual cycle concludes, only to begin again.
