Dive into epic water sports at Ko Olina Marina or at the Resort. Learn to stand-up paddleboard (SUP) right on the beach. Test your thrill level on the cliffs of Waimea Bay. Let loose with a zipline tour on Kualoa Ranch. Adventure seekers are in luck on the island of Oahu, thanks to an abundance of action-packed activities at your fingertips.
An offshoot of surfing, stand-up paddleboarding (or SUP) is a popular water sport on the island. Use the Resort’s complimentary paddleboards and venture out into one of Ko Olina’s lagoons. For a more genuine experience, ask native west Oahu resident Uncle George for a lesson at Pokai Bay, or what he calls the Bay of Dreams. He gives free lessons to anyone willing to learn while sharing his incredible story of growing up in the surfing mecca of Makaha.
MOUNTAIN SPORTS AT KUALOA RANCH
Kualoa Ranch, the filming location for movies including Jurassic Park and Godzilla, is home to a wide array of activities for people of all adventure levels. Go horseback riding along scenic pathways that overlook Mokoli’i Island. Hike, mountain bike or drive an ATV through jungle terrain. Or let loose during the Treetops Zipline Canopy Tour, which begins at the top of Ka’a’awa Valley.
CLIFF JUMPING AT WAIMEA BAY BEACH PARK
The North Shore beach of Waimea Bay is outfitted with cliff-jumping spots perfect for thrill seekers. The recommended time to go is during summer months, when the bay’s waters are calmer than during the big-wave surf season.
Put down the fishing rod, grab a spear, and start diving. Do like the locals do and try your hand at spearfishing along one of the island’s reefs. Lessons are offered at various locations on Oahu and instructors will provide specific safety instructions, as well as information about spearfishing state laws and regulations.
SURF MAKAHA BEACH PARK
For an authentic Hawaiian experience, snag a surfing lesson from a local at Makaha Beach Park, the birthplace of surfing. Located on Oahu’s western coast, Makaha Beach lacks the crowds of more tourist-driven Waikiki Beach and North Shore beaches, but the swells are just as impressive.
DEEP SEA FISHING
With the Ko Olina Marina located next to the Resort, it’s easy to book a full- or half-day deep sea fishing adventure. Yellowfin tuna, Pacific blue Marlin and mahi mahi are popular catches. Let our chefs take your catch and prepare it for a perfect dinner for you and your family.
For the ultimate Oahu sightseeing experience, opt for a helicopter tour that flies you past the island’s many must-see attractions including Pearl Harbour, Diamond Head and Kaneohe Bay, with a tour of the Kualoa Ranch on the north shore. Paradise Helicopters can customize your trip to enjoy every moment in the air.
