Training Young Maldivians to Become Tomorrow's Hoteliers
Central to the uniquely Maldivian experience at the heart of Landaa Giraavaru is our predominantly local team. But how does one even begin to contemplate a recruitment drive across some 1,190 islands spread across 90,000 square kilometres of ocean? The answer lies in the Four Seasons Resort Maldives Apprenticeship Programme – a vocational training scheme for young and dynamic Maldivians looking to enter the hospitality industry.
It’s amazing to think that our journey – and that of the programme’s 312 alumnae to date – began back in 2001. With 75% of our graduates going on to hold full time positions with Four Seasons, we’re proud to run the Maldives longest running and most successful apprenticeship programme; furthermore, in 2010, it gained recognition as the country’s first TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) certified Apprenticeship scheme, with a government-accredited curriculum and nationally recognised competency standards and qualifications.
During each recruitment drive, we traverse the Maldives’ atolls and islands, interviewing enthusiastic young males and females, aged 17-20, eager to pave their path in the hospitality industry. Minimum requirements include O-level certifications and fluency in both written and spoken English but no previous work experience is necessary. Successful applicants get to live, breathe and experience Four Seasons island life alongside existing staff members as they train in Resort operations and attend theory classes throughout the course of a year.
The Class of 2014/5 will include the first intake of Marine Discovery Apprentices – a testament to our continually expanding conservation initiatives. With further apprenticeships in Food & Beverage Preparation or Service, Safe Maritime Transport & Engineering, Housekeeping, Guest Services & Front of Office, PADI Dive Master and Water Sports Attendant, it’s our privilege to champion ‘home-grown’ hoteliers and the hospitality stars of tomorrow.
