Guide to Surfing Nirvana
I’ve guided more than 30 Four Seasons Explorer surf charters. Tropicsurf’s expertise coupled with Four Seasons luxury moulds into a unique experience; there is nothing out there like it. A great trait of Four Seasons Explorer is that it can travel overnight to where the surf is breaking best, so you can expect to arrive fresh, assess conditions and be ready to surf all day.
There are always two to three Tropicsurf guides on board and quite often there are different waves either side of the reef passes to suit different abilities. It is not uncommon for some guests to be catching their first wave and for their friends to be ripping on the other side. We’re always on hand to help even the most experienced surfers hone their skills and use video footage to give the most constructive feedback.
For recreational surfers the Maldives has amazing variety and consistency. The place is magic. There is always a thread of a route based on the week’s swell forecast but conditions can change quickly and we will move anywhere at anytime to find the best waves. As far as ability and wave choices are concerned, some guests like to push themselves and improve and others like to cruise and just have fun. We can accommodate both.
Each trip differs with the dynamic. Party animals do exist in the Four Seasons realm and others prefer to do morning yoga. Evenings on board entail excellent food and great wine or the other way round. It’s a win win! Each trip will also have slide shows from our Tropicsurf in house photographer of the best waves and boat lifestyle shots. There are also BBQ nights, movie nights and parties. Of course, you can always escape with a good book if you choose to.
Without a doubt my favourite part of the Four Seasons Explorer surfari experience is the lively banter at the dinner table and the people you meet. Everyone is there for the same reason and that is to have a great time. There are a lot of laughs. And what can be wrong with that?
