All In A Day’s Cruise
I’ve been Cruise Director onboard Four Seasons Explorer since 2012 and love it. My day begins at 6am with wake-up call requests in advance of early morning dive departures, and continues at full throttle until an evening nightcap after showing guests their videography highlights of the day. I love discovering new things every day and, every week, meeting new people from around the world, hearing their stories and sharing stories with them about the local people and places of interest. I always say to my guests that they come onboard as strangers and leave as best friends, which is truly my favourite thing about the Four Seasons Explorer cruise experience.
With the true beauty of the Maldives lying underwater, the best way to appreciate it is as a diver, but you don’t have to dive to have some exceptional experiences. One of my most memorable of the past two years was when we encountered hundreds of pilot whales in the middle of the open sea. Of course, the guests agreed to cancel the scheduled afternoon activity and we spent the afternoon snorkelling with these extraordinary creatures.
Life on board is often fluid like this, to ensure that our guests experience the best of the Maldives in that moment in time. One of my other onboard highlights involves whale sharks. We adapt our cruise itineraries to visit year-round whale shark and seasonal manta ray hotspots, and our state-of-the-art equipment and onboard experts result in frequent ‘bucket list’ experiences for guests. Diving and snorkelling aside, our gourmet dining, spa treatments, island excursions and water sports mean that there is always plenty to do above the waves as well. We aim to give guests the cruise experience of a lifetime, and by combining professionalism and great facilities with a whole lot of fun, we are often delighted to be able to achieve this goal.
