When she was growing up in Budapest\u2019s Castle District, Sandra S\u00e1ndor spent time in her mother\u2019s atelier, often serving as the fit model for children\u2019s wear. A London College of Fashion graduate, S\u00e1ndor launched her own label in 2005\u2014calling it Nanushka<\/a>, after her childhood nickname\u2014and later established a store in the Hungarian capital.<\/p>\r\n

Her brand\u2019s distinctive style marries impeccable craftsmanship with modernist functionality and a commitment to sustainable production. (Exhibit A: a vegan-leather puffer jacket.) Much of S\u00e1ndor\u2019s inspiration springs from Budapest itself. \u201cEastern and Western European influences come together in a blend of history, culture, and architecture,\u201d she says.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

V\u00e1rosliget<\/h2>\r\n

\u201c[City Park] is home to major landmarks like Heroes\u2019 Square, Vajdahunyad Castle, and Sz\u00e9chenyi Thermal Bath. A lake turns into an ice rink in winter. One of my favourite additions is the House of Music [museum and concert hall]. Some of my happiest moments have been spent in the park with my son, Samu.\u201d<\/p>\r\n

\u00cdr\u00f3k Boltja<\/a><\/h2>\r\n

\u201cOne of Budapest\u2019s most iconic literary bookshops. I\u2019ve been loving shopping for books lately, especially as sources of inspiration for new collections.\u201d<\/p>\r\n

Omorovicza<\/a><\/h2>\r\n

\u201c[This spa is] so relaxing and one of the most tranquil places in Budapest. A pro tip is to try their Daily Vitamin C serum; it\u2019s an instant boost that makes your skin look refreshed and gives an incredible glow.\u201d<\/p>\r\n

\u201cThe incredible views from the rooms, the perfect outdoor terrace at [Michelin-recommended] KOLL\u00c1ZS in the summer, and the impeccable cocktails at [Asian-\u200binspired] M\u00daZSA are all such a treat.\u201d<\/p>\r\n

Fausto\u2019s<\/a><\/h2>\r\n

\u201cSome of the best Italian food I\u2019ve had outside of Italy, [like] the mezzaluna [stuffed half-moon-shaped pasta] with duck, pumpkin, and walnut.\u201d<\/p>\r\n

D\u00e9ryn\u00e9 Bistro<\/a><\/h2>\r\n

\u201cA Budapest institution where the walls could tell a hundred stories. In summer, sit on the patio. And don\u2019t skip the t\u00far\u00f3gomb\u00f3c [cottage cheese dumplings].\u201d<\/p>\r\n

Tucked into one of my favourite residential squares in the city centre, it\u2019s where the best Hungarian and European natural wines meet fresh, local ingredients. Barnag\u2019s 2022 K\u00e9kfrankos is a classic, but the 2023 Barnag Diszk\u00f3 is ideal for a lighter meal or to share with friends in the late afternoon.\u201d<\/p>\r\n

Espresso Embassy<\/a><\/h2>\r\n

\u201cYou can spend the whole day [here] drinking coffee and people watching. I always have a flat white with oat milk in the winter.\u201d<\/p>\r\n

\u201cThis is an extension of the Michelin-starred Salt restaurant.
