At his former restaurant Underbelly\u2014where his cooking won him a James Beard Award in 2014\u2014Shepherd made a habit of recommending other local spots for diners to try. In 2015, with his wife, Lindsey Brown, he co-founded the <a href=\"https:\/\/southernsmoke.org\/\">Southern Smoke Foundation<\/a> (SSF), a nonprofit that supports food and beverage workers across the United States who are affected by disasters; to date, the SSF has disbursed nearly $15 million in direct aid and made possible more than 8,000 mental-health visits. Here, Shepherd shares his&nbsp;favourite&nbsp;restaurants (and more) in the city that he loves for its boundless multiculturalism. \u201cHoustonians are just welcoming. They do a damn good&nbsp;martini, man. This fall, the museum&nbsp;opens&nbsp;an exhibit of Robert Rauschenberg\u2019s fabric&nbsp;sculptures.)&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstonballet.org\/\">Houston Ballet<\/a><\/strong>:<strong> <\/strong>\u201cI like going to&nbsp;the ballet&nbsp;with my wife. I&nbsp;can\u2019t&nbsp;believe I just said that. But she will also go to the Houston Texans games with me. Having&nbsp;all of&nbsp;the sports\u2014the Rockets, the Astros, the Texans\u2014and then having&nbsp;all of&nbsp;the arts and the museums,&nbsp;it\u2019s&nbsp;a city like no other.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stroll<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Montrose&nbsp;Neighbourhood<\/strong>:&nbsp;\u201cKind of the&nbsp;heartbeat of everything, and the most walkable&nbsp;neighbourhood&nbsp;in Houston.&nbsp;All of&nbsp;the restaurants I had were in the middle of Montrose.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group property-commerce-box\"><div
