A focal point of the city\u2019s constant evolution is Shibuya Crossing, one of the world\u2019s busiest and oldest crossroads. Pedestrians of all ages swarm the zebra-striped walkways as neon signs reflect off shops\u2019 glass fronts, creating a Japanese-centric futuristic vibe. It\u2019s also home to the <strong>Kabukiza<\/strong><strong> Theatre<\/strong>, newly renovated but opened in 1899. The theatre is the city\u2019s main venue for kabuki, a classical Japanese dance drama that dates back to the Edo period, from 1603 to 1868.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"body_block_6\" class=\"body-block text-block body-block-article-content-block\">\n<div class=\"entry\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">For a quiet moment in Ginza, the Concierge at the nearby <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fourseasons.com\/tokyo\/\">Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Marunouchi<\/a> <\/strong>recommends Japanese tea salon <strong>Higashiya Ginza<\/strong>. The small space \u2013 it seats about 40 \u2013 is an ideal spot for afternoon tea, but visitors can also participate in <em>Cha-Kabuki<\/em>, a popular game from the 12th century to the 14th (Kamakura to Nanbokucho periods). Players start with a blind tasting, and then guess the name and origin of each Japanese tea based on its flavour and aroma. At <b>Komiyama Book Store<\/b> \u2013 opened in 1939 \u2013 get lost among four storeys of classic fashion books, magazines, posters, prints and photography books. <b>Bohemian\u2019s Guild<\/b> specializes in books on art, photography, fashion and architecture from around the world, plus a gallery of paintings, sketches and calligraphy by writers, including Kenzaburo Oe.<\/p>\n<p>Tucked away above one used bookshop is <b>Curry Bondy<\/b>, an intimate <i>kissaten-<\/i>style diner offering plenty of umami in local, Indian and French flavours \u2013 a surprising hidden culinary gem in a neighbourhood devoted to the written word.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"body_block_17\" class=\"body-block text-block body-block-article-content-block\">\n<div class=\"entry\">\n<p>Those who like their stories to have a happy ending should make a stop at <strong>the University of Tokyo<\/strong>, at the edge of Jimbocho.
