Taste of Place is a collection of culinary and beverage experiences inviting you to sample local food culture in Four Seasons destinations around the world. At participating properties, travellers and locals with an appetite for exploration can enjoy exclusive tours, tastings, classes and dining experiences – each orchestrated by area experts and unfolding in unforgettable settings.
The Jimbaran Bay Cooking Academy offers visitors an authentic taste of Indonesian culinary experiences. Our institution is the only school in Bali that instructs in a variety of cuisines from across Indonesia, allowing you to learn and taste a different style of cuisine every day, if you wish.
This class experience begins with a market tour at 8:00 am to Jimbaran’s historic fishmarkets, just a 10-minute drive from the Resort. Choose to explore the markets solo or alongside Chef Anak Agung Kristya Yudha, who can help you choose the best ingredients for local dishes. Soak up the vibrant atmosphere of the traditional markets, buzzing with villagers who buy ingredients for the day.
The market tour is followed by a light breakfast at the Resort, after which you can harvest herbs and spices from our Cooking Academy garden.
Once back at the Cooking Academy, choose a set menu from any of the regions across the Indonesian archipelago: Bali, Java, Nusa Tenggara, Sulawesi and Sumatra. A highlight of the available menus is Balinese ceremonial food, which features “Bebek betutu” (roasted duck wrapped in banana leaf). This ceremonial dish is usually served during special occasions such as Odalan (anniversary of a temple) or Otonan (ceremonial birthday).
During your half-day session, you will receive an interactive lesson on each menu item's preparation as you prepare a full five-course meal. Sample your creations at the communal dining table or outdoors in the shaded courtyard.
At the close of class, you will leave with a commemorative certificate, apron and recipe booklet.

*The experience includes transport to the markets as well as spice and herb harvesting from our own garden. The Cooking Academy program starts at 8:00 am with Traditional Market Tour and finishes at 1:00 pm. It is available once a day due to the traditional market operational time.
