Taste of Thailand
For culinary adventurers, Thailand is a land of endless delights – vibrant, intense, and unique. The Thais’ love for food is evident in each succulent bite, whether you’re eating from a humble street vendor or at a fine-dining restaurant.
Thai cuisine doesn’t believe in rigid separations between different tastes. There’s a party happening in your plate, and everyone’s invited! Spicy, salty and sweet come together in complex and unusual ways – the whole is greater than its parts, and it’s impossible not to fall in love. The bold, bright flavors will surprise your taste buds and keep you coming back for more. Local fare features fresh produce: think juicy pineapple, creamy coconut milk, fragrant sweet basil and miniature eggplants. Meat and seafood lovers are also spoilt for choice, with a wide range of meat and seafood on the menu. There is – quite literally – something for every palate.
Even within Thailand, each region serves up a distinct cuisine. Chiang Mai has a rich culinary tradition, with a blend of Lanna, Burmese and Laotian influences. It is certainly different from most staples in Thai restaurant around the world! With longer cooking times comes greater depth of flavor. Fire is not simply a heating mechanism here; flame roasting and charcoal grilling lend a delectable smokiness to grilled meats and chilli dips. Many dishes star popular local ingredients, such as banana flowers, bamboo shoots, young jackfruit and wild boar.
It’s not often that things live up to all the hype that surrounds them, but Thai food is a notable exception. In fact, it is somewhat like travel itself – the more you experience it, the more addictive it is!
