Full-day excursions

Victoria

The capital of British Columbia is a must for visitors, particularly because of the well-known Butchart Gardens – located 40 minutes from the city, they are open year-round, offering 24 hectares (59 acres) of dazzling colour. The city has an intimate inner harbour, where you'll find the Parliament Buildings and the Royal BC Museum. Take a peek into the opulent lifestyle of Victoria's richest and most famous turn-of-the century family at Craigdarroch Castle, built in the 1890s.

Children will enjoy the Butterfly Museum or the unusual Bug Zoo. During the summer, many go by boat or Zodiac to spot whales, sea lions and other wildlife.

As travel time by car and ferry will take approximately 3.5 hours each way, we suggest you plan an entire day for this trip. An organized tour will take approximately 13 hours. Consider travelling by floatplane or helicopter instead, and reach Victoria in just 35 minutes. Please contact the Concierge for details.

Scenic day trips

Bowen Island

Off the coast of Vancouver, there are many beautiful secluded islands. For a wonderful half-day trip, Bowen Island can be reached in a half-hour ferry trip. There are only three main roads on Bowen Island, all branching out from Snug Cove, so how you spend your day depends on whether you are travelling by car, bike or foot.
You can drive or bike to Killarney Lake to swim, canoe or kayak, but the 75-minute trail around the lake is only for hikers. The boardwalk that crosses a marsh at one end is an excellent vantage point to view mink, grouse, ravens, eagles, herons, cormorants and deer. Fabulous sea-kayaking is also available at Bowen Island Sea Kayaking, where one can explore 37 kilometres (23 miles) of coastline and many nearby islands.
Mount Gardiner is Bowen's highest point and the view of surrounding islands and the Lions peaks are well worth the all-day hike. A number of local artists, such as Sam Black, open their studios to the public and this can make for a pleasant tour. See the Concierge for further details.
