Over, Under and On: Sydney by the Water
Sydneysiders love the harbour, and for good reason – it’s often voted one of the most beautiful harbours in the world. Flanked by Sydney’s crown jewels, the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House, it’s also home to numerous fine-dining restaurants, museums, the Royal Botanic Gardens and cute and quirky boutiques. Here are our Concierge’s top three ways to experience Sydney Harbour.
OVER: The best view of Sydney Harbour is definitely from the top. Take off from nearby Rose Bay and fly the skies in a Sydney seaplane, taking in Bondi Beach, the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House before lunch at Catalina Restaurant in Rose Bay, one of Sydney’s premier restaurants.
ON: Ever dreamed of taking your own boat out on Sydney Harbour, driving under the Harbour Bridge and stopping for a quick dip in the ocean near Manly? Our concierge team can help you organize a chartered boat trip with a licensed skipper, or, if you’d prefer, you can guide the boat yourself. At lunchtime, sit back and enjoy the harbour with a picnic for two. Don’t forget your sunscreen!
UNDER: A little farther from the harbour lies Camp Cove, one of the best scuba dive sites in Sydney. The North Reef is the most popular dive here, with an abundance of marine life, large boulders, overhangs, swim-throughs and walls offering something for every experience level. The maximum depth is 5 to 6 metres (16 to 20 feet) at high tide. Try a night dive for a chance at some excellent underwater photography and fantastic views of the lit CBD skyline when you surface.
