My Four Seasons

A Welcoming Smile: Meet Pasquale Rubbo

For 27 years, Pasquale Rubbo’s broad smile has been one of the first sights guests see when they arrive at Four Seasons Hotel Sydney. In his role as Commissionaire, he greets guests at the Hotel’s front door and driveway, which overlooks the bustling and vibrant harbour.

“I love making a connection with the guests; meeting new people and welcoming regulars back to the Hotel,” says Rubbo, who was born in Italy and moved to Australia at age 21 when he met and fell in love with his Aussie wife. “I am never bored! My goal is to make the guests happy, ensure they have the best possible experience during their stay, and address any questions or concerns.”

Those questions or concerns may be a touch unusual from time to time. Once, for example, Rubbo drove a guest and his young child around Sydney because the guest was apprehensive about driving on the left side of the road.

Rubbo is an ambassador for his adopted city too. “The Sydney Harbour BridgeClimb is something I often recommend to guests when they ask. I have climbed it three times myself, and you get to see an amazing view of Sydney,” he says. “It’s an experience you can’t get anywhere else in the world.” He’s also always up for a discussion about golf or soccer (football), especially his favourite club, Italy’s Juventus.

And after 27 years, excelling at his job just comes naturally to Rubbo. “Treat others as you would like to be treated,” he says. “Offering that kind of warmth and kindness to our guests makes the job worthwhile.”
