Historic Sites

Alcatraz Island

Commonly referred to as "The Rock," Alcatraz Island was established in 1934 with facilities for military fortification, a military prison, and a federal prison. Alcatraz received designation as a National Historic Landmark in 1986. It is now open to tours and can be reached via ferry from Pier 33 in San Francisco.

Ferry Building

Originally designed in 1892 after the 12th century Giralda Bell Tower in Seville, Spain, the Ferry Building served as a terminal for ferries across the bay. The advent of bridges decreased water traffic and the building was adapted for office use. Today, this landmark is a bustling marketplace for fresh produce.

Pebble Beach

Pebble Beach is a coastal resort home to the illustrious golf course, Pebble Beach Golf Links. The area is administered by the Pebble Beach Company and the Del Monte Forest Foundation. The area is bordered by Monterey, Carmel-by-the-Sea, and Pacific Grove.

Coit Tower

This 210-foot tower was constructed in 1933 on Lillie Hitchcock Coit's bequest to beautify the city of San Francisco. The tower is located in the city's Pioneer Park.

Filoli Estate

Bursting with blooming wildlife and horizons that are soft on the eyes, Filoli Estate is a timeless site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Filoli presently runs a variety of projects and programs for the benefit of the community and its members.

Rengstorff House

Depicting Italian Victorian architecture style, the Rengstorff House was one of the first built in Mountain View. The house and English gardens are open for guided tours.

St. Thomas Aquinas Church

Just three blocks south of University Avenue, the St. Thomas Aquinas Church is the oldest church in Palo Alto. Its distinctive Carpenter Gothic Victorian style is unique to the downtown area.

HP Garage

HP Garage has been coined the Birthplace of Silicon Valley, which is why in 2004, HP made plans to preserve the site for future generations. The project turned back the clock to 1939, when Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard established their now legendary partnership. Not open to tours, the garage may be viewed and photographed from the sidewalk.

Winchester Mystery House

he creation of a distressed widow, the Winchester Mystery House is the life's work of Sarah Winchester who, following the deaths of her child and husband, spent $20 million renovating and bolstering her sprawling estate. Visit the mansion to be enthralled by its splendor, craftsmanship and oddities.

De Young Museum

Named for early San Francisco newspaperman M.H. de Young, the fine arts museum is located in Golden Gate Park. Showcased are American art from the 17th through the 21st centuries as well as art from the Pacific and Africa.

Legion of Honor

A part of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco (FAMSF), the Legion of Honor is both the name of the collection and the building in which it is housed. The collection was a gift of Alma de Bretteville Spreckels.

USS Hornet Museum

Located on the southernmost pier of the former Naval Air Station Alameda, the USS Hornet Museum is a museum ship. Compartments contain exhibits concerning temporary carriers.

Cantor Arts Center

Formerly the Stanford University Museum of Art, this museum houses over 400 sculptures, including those displayed throughout the Stanford Univeristy campus. It is the largest collection of Auguste Rodin.

Computer History Museum

Established in 1996, the museum is dedicated to preserving the artifacts of the information age and exploring the computer revolution throughout history, as well as highlighting its impact on our lives.

Tech Museum

True to its name, the Tech Museum explores technology through four major theme galleries: communication, exploration, innovation and life tech. Each gallery is constantly being renovated to keep the exhibits current.

SF Giants @ AT&T Park

Home of the MLB's San Francisco Giants (2010 World Series Champions) since 2000, the park is located at 24 Willie Mays Plaza. Originally designed to seat 42,000, record attendance has reached 44,046 spectators.

SF 49ers @ Candlestick Park

Opened in 1960, Candlestick Park (aka The 'Stick) was built for the SF Giants, until the NFL's 49ers moved in for the 1971 season. The stadium is located at Candlestick point on the western shore of the San Francisco Bay.

SJ Sharks @ HP Pavilion

Formerly known as the Compaq Center, the arena is commonly referred to as The Shark Tank or The Tank. Its primary tenant is the San Jose Sharks of the NHL. HP also houses concerts and other sporting events.

Santana Row

Santana Row offers a mix of high end and mid-tier retail tenants ranging from luxury brands like Gucci, Salvatore Ferragamo and Tourneau, to casual brands such as H&M and Urban Outfitters. The site was previously a Town and Country Village.

Union Square Shopping District

The popular shopping destination boasts six major department stores and several famous upscale boutiques. It is also home to the country's first Goyard boutique. There are more stores located inside the newly renovated Westfield San Francisco Centre just south of Union Square along Market Street.

Established in 1891, the American private research university is the largest contiguous university campus in the US. More than 50 faculty and staff have won the Nobel Prize and the university has produced 107 Rhodes Scholars. Founded in 1851, Santa Clara University is the oldest operating institution of higher learning in California. The Santa Clara Mission is a campus landmark.

UC Berkley

Also referred to as "Cal", this public research university has consistently ranked among the top 10 public university rankings on both national and global levels.

Music Venues

Shoreline Amiptheatre

Designed to resemble The Grateful Dead's "steal your face" image, Shoreline Amphitheatre, located in Mountain View, is the Bay Area's music hotspot. The total capacity of the venue can reach over 30,000 with both reserved seating and general admission on the lawn.

Mountain Winery

Wine production at the Mountain Winery, which focused on sparkling wines, began in 1901. Wine making ceased in 1952 and the concert series began in 1958. New vineyards were planted in 2004 and presently concerts and wine-making work in tandem.

Courthouse Square

Smack dab in the middle of Redwood City, this spot is the quintessential small town centre. Screening outdoor movies, hosting electrifying concerts, and rich with aesthetic beauty, this is the place to be.

Hiking Trails

Purisima Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve

Visit the redwood groves and over 20 miles of various hiking trails in this 2,500-acre park. Some trails are exclusively for mountain bikers and equestrians.

Wunderlich Park

A county park in Woodside, Wunderlich Park nestles on the hillside below Skyline Boulevard. Hike five miles uphill in a heavily shaded redwood forest from the park entrance on Woodside Road to the edge of Skyline Boulevard.

Edgewood Park

The serpentine grasslands of Edgewood Park are famous for their magnificent displays of wildflowers in the spring. Wonderful hiking and sightseeing opportunities are afforded by the park's 467 acres of woodlands and grasslands.

Huddart Park

Designed to resemble The Grateful Dead's "steal your face" image, Shoreline The forested slopes and steep, cool canyons of Huddart Park are located only a short drive from the hotel. Miles of trails offer even experienced hikers hours of pleasure and many are open to equestrian use.

Villa Montalvo

Villa Montalvo is an Italian Mediterranean-style mansion nestled in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains. A short hike to the summit of Montalvo's backyard provides a sprawling view of the SF Bay. The park also includes a cultural and arts center as well as a blossoming flower garden.

Stanford Dish

A popular respite for students, this foothills habitat conservation area is open to jogging and hiking on trails with oak, chaparral, grazing land for cattle, and beautiful panoramas of the Bay. Picnic, games and dogs are not allowed.
