Desert Botanical Garden

Fiddlesticks Scottsdale
The Fiddlesticks family fun park has Atlantis Laser Odyssey laser tag – a two-story maze filled with fun and excitement for the whole family. Other fun features are a seven-ride Kiddie Land showcase, Rookie Go-Karts, Kiddie Coaster and Flying Swings.
Fort McDowell Casino
The Fort McDowell Casino is a 150,000-square-foot (13,935-square-metre) Native American-run casino. It features 775 slots, 18 table games and five restaurants.
Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin West
Taliesin West was built by Frank Lloyd Wright and his apprentices in the 1930s and was constantly expanded and modified by the architect until his death in 1959. Wright and his apprentices literally created Taliesin West out of the desert, by gathering rocks from the desert floor and sand from the washes to keep the design in balance with the surrounding environment. The site, considered one of the Wright's greatest masterpieces, was designed to serve as his home, studio and architectural laboratory. Choose from a broad range of tours that showcase Wright's brilliant ability to integrate indoor and outdoor space.
Gila River Casinos
Home to 750 slots, live poker, blackjack, keno and a 1500-seat high-stakes bingo hall, Gila River Wild Horse Pass Casino is Arizona's largest. The Lone Butte, its sister casino – a slot lover's destination – is conveniently located a short drive away.
McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park
Treat the kids to hours of outdoor fun at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park, located on the southeast corner of Scottsdale Road and Indian Bend Road in Scottsdale. Ride the train through the park's scenic settings, take a spin on the carousel and browse the railroad museum and store. See the railroad clubs play with their smaller-scale trains in the old-time bunkhouse. Taste hand-dipped ice cream from Hartley's General Store. Two playgrounds are located in the park, and food, drinks and souvenirs are all available.
Native Trails
At the Scottsdale Civic Center Mall, in the heart of downtown Scottsdale, Native American performers present traditional stories, dances and music from 12:00 noon to 1:30 pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays (some blackout dates apply). Native foods, arts, crafts and jewellery are featured.
Reata Pass and Pinnacle Peak Patio
Popular attractions for newcomers and groups, Reata Pass and Pinnacle Peak Patio are replicas of 1880s western towns. They include steakhouse restaurants and live music. (Both are located next to the Resort.)
The Phoenix Zoo
Conveniently located, the Phoenix Zoo is home to more than 1,300 animals, including 200 endangered or threatened birds, mammals and reptiles from around the world. Visit the tropical rainforest or African savannah, listen to a keeper talk, and check out the desert plants and animals of the Arizona Trail. The Zoo has unique nature play areas, bike and boat rentals and an exciting line-up of exhibits, programmes and events.
Museums
Cosanti Foundation
The Cosanti Foundation is a unique complex of desert-appropriate, experimental, concrete structures designed and constructed by Paolo Soleri, world-recognised architect and originator of arcology, an urban concept embodying a fusion of architecture and ecology. Arcosanti, a prototype arcology, is the main project of the Cosanti Foundation headquartered here. Visitors may browse the studios where Soleri bronze and ceramic windbells are made and sold.
Heard Museum
The Heard Museum is a private, non-profit museum founded in 1929 by Dwight B. and Maie Bartlett Heard to house their personal collection of cultural and fine art. More than seven decades of history have transformed the world-famous Heard Museum into what USA Today describes as the nation's most prestigious private Native arts centre. Hands-on activities and tours are available for children.
Phoenix Art Museum
The Phoenix Art Museum is the largest museum in the Southwest, with world-class exhibitions and a collection of more than 17,000 works of art. Not to be missed are the Thorne Miniature Rooms, showing historic interiors; shopping in the museum store; and gourmet Arcadia Farms lunch in the museum café. The museum also presents a variety of public programmes, including film showings, lectures, family Sundays, gallery talks and more.
Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art
Located in Scottsdale's popular Old Town district, the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art features compelling contemporary art, architecture and design from around the globe. The Museum presents a wide variety of changing exhibitions, educational programmes and special events for adults and families.

Apache Trail
Tucked into the Superstition Mountains, the Apache Trail once served as a stagecoach and freight wagon route from Mesa to Globe. Indians, cowboys and miners all roamed the mysterious Superstition Mountains, and Jacob Waltz's Lost Dutchman Mine is still waiting to be discovered in a hidden canyon. Attractions along the trail include the OK Corral Stables, Superstition Mountain Museum, Goldfield Ghost Town, Boyce Thompson Arboretum and more.
Grand Canyon
Take a flight from Scottsdale and enjoy incredible sights over Arizona along the way to the majestic Grand Canyon. Upon descent, enjoy a guided tour of the South Rim of the Canyon and visit the quaint shops. Add a 20-minute helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon for more adventure!
Jerome
Jerome is an abandoned mining camp perched on the side of Cleopatra Hill. Today it beckons to the art lover as it once did to the miner. Enjoy the shops, restaurants and art centre that line the cobblestone streets, built on the 30-degree slope up from the Verde Valley. The entire town has been declared a National Historic Landmark.
Montezuma Castle National Monument
Montezuma Castle is neither a castle nor an Aztec dwelling, as its name might imply. It is a well-preserved ancient Native (Sinaguan) cliff dwelling, built more than six centuries ago. The Sinagua people are still a great mystery, having vanished without a trace in the early 14th century.
Oak Creek winds through the rugged Oak Creek Canyon. It is flanked by red rock cliffs and shaded along its banks by sycamore and cottonwood. The waters of Oak Creek first lured Native peoples, then settlers, and attract new visitors today. Two of Arizona’s finest swimming holes are located in Oak Creek; one of them, Slide Rock, has been made into a state park.
Prescott
Declared the capital of the Arizona Territory in 1864, Prescott radiates with Western flavour and pre-statehood history. Delightful dining spots also characterise this charming getaway. Surrounding the city is Prescott National Forest, which provides campgrounds, picnic areas, lakes and areas for horseback riding, prospecting and fishing.
Sedona
A day trip to Sedona should not be missed! Contact the Concierge to arrange the popular Pink Jeep tour and get advice on what to see while in the area. Be sure to pack a camera, as the stunning red rock vistas offer ample photo opportunities. And save time to visit the galleries in nearby Jerome, an old copper mining town perched atop a picturesque mountainside.

Among the oldest European settlements in Arizona, Tucson is the state’s second-largest city. Highlights include the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, an innovative and exciting mix of zoo, botanical garden and aquarium, with a mission to tell the story of the Sonoran Desert. Also not to be missed is Mission San Xavier del Bac, acclaimed to be the best example of Spanish mission architecture in the United States.
