Upper East Side

This is My New York

“There are so many wonderful neighbourhoods to visit in New York. My personal favourite is my home, the Upper East Side. I’ll start off my day with a stroll or run around the Central Park Reservoir, then I’m off to explore.”

  • 1. UNTITLED AT THE WHITNEY BY DANNY MEYER | 945 Madison Ave

I start my day at Untitled, a contemporary take on the classic Manhattan coffee shop or diner. The menu is inspired by seasonal ingredients and the restaurant supports local food artisans. Try my favourite huckleberry pancakes – they are incredible!

  • 2. THE JUICY NAAM | 1295 Madison Ave, 2nd floor

If I’m feeling like eating something light and healthy, I will go to the Juicy Naam, a great spot for raw juices and organic smoothies.

  • 3. ELENI’S COOKIES | 1266 Madison Ave

Eleni’s cookies are delightful and unique as well as nut-free and kosher. Whether it is Christmas, Easter, Fashion Week or March Madness Basketball, Eleni’s has cookies in every theme imaginable.

  • 4. GERALD BLAND ART & ANTIQUES GALLERY | 1262 Madison Ave

This antique store with a unique twist has collections ranging from the 17th to the 21st centuries. Once I actually found a pink Schiaparelli hatbox there! Vintage collectors will understand how ecstatic I was to find this treasure.

  • 5. STYLE PARIS | 1038 Lexington Ave

Style Paris is a high-end boutique that specializes in women’s clothing crafted in France. If you are a fan of Audrey Hepburn, coming here is a must – they have a gorgeous selection of Audrey-style dresses, blazers, party dresses and coats. Dresses can be made to order in your size.

  • 6. KOKI HATS | 1028 Lexington Ave

Koki is a stunning and unique hat shop owned by designer KOKIN. Koki Hats offers the chicest hats and turbans I have ever seen. Choices range from floppy beach hats to the most unconventional styles for every occasion.

  • 7. MUSEUM OF THE CITY OF NEW YORK | 1220 5th Ave

Every time I visit this museum, I like to take the time and watch Timescapes: A Multimedia Portrait of New York, a short, 22-minute film that traces New York from its beginnings to present day.

  • 8. SAN MATTEO PANUOZZO | 1739 2nd Ave

For dinner, I frequent this great pizzeria, San Matteo Panuozzo. Stepping into this tiny rustic gem is like walking into Southern Italy. More than 20 varieties of Neapolitan-style pizza are baked in the hand-built, wood-fired oven.

  • 9. JONES WOOD FOUNDRY | 401 E. 76th St

Jones Wood Foundry is a wonderful British gastropub and my favourite place to spend a casual evening with friends. Their menu is a dream, with an entire toast section that includes Scotch eggs and of course, bangers and mash for Anglophiles and those missing the UK.

  • 10. J.G. MELONS | 1291 3rd Ave

Feeling like a late-night dine and dance? This little tavern has one of the best jukeboxes in town, along with fantastic burgers.
