Lower East Side

This is My New York

“I am a member of the international organization called Les Clefs d’Or, where the ultimate goal is to offer the best service to our guests. On my day off I love to visit the Lower East Side to see the different restaurants and museums.”

  • 1. TENEMENT MUSEUM | 103 Orchard St

Witness the history of immigration through the personal experiences of generations of newcomers who built their lives in New York City in the 19th and 20th centuries. Purchase advance tickets online, as they tend to sell out quickly.

  • 2. CLINTON STREET BAKING CO. | 4 Clinton St

Clinton Street Baking Co. is well known for their breakfasts, especially their delicious pancakes. Try my personal favourite, almond pancakes with fresh blueberries. For breakfast and brunch lovers, this is a stop not to be missed.

  • 3. STANTON AND CLINTON STS

Well known for its vintage stores and hole-in-the wall thrift shops, Stanton and Clinton is the place to be if you’re looking for designer quality on a budget. Shoe lovers should be sure to check out Ellen (at Ludlow St.) for some great finds.

  • 4. ED’S LOBSTER BAR ANNEX | 222 Lafayette St

If you are looking for great seafood, Ed’s is the place to go!

  • 5. KATZ’S DELICATESSEN | 205 East Houston St

Katz’s is one of the best delis in the city and has been around since 1888! It’s a great place to take the kids for lunch, as they have a wide selection of sandwiches and kids’ favourites.

  • 6. JOE’S SHANGHAI | 9 Pell St

The water dumplings are fantastic at this casual spot in Chinatown. Note: This restaurant is cash only.

  • 7. ELDRIDGE STREET SYNAGOGUE | 12 Eldridge St

This National Historic Landmark is a synagogue, a museum and most of all, a portal into the lives of Jewish immigrants 125 years ago. Go “Beyond the Façade” and take an architectural tour of the building.

  • 8. NEW MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART | 235 Bowery St

If you frequent New York City museums, you won’t be surprised by the not-your-average-museum feeling the New Museum delivers to its visitors. The exhibits here focus on contemporary artists from around the world.

  • 9. OLD ESSEX STREET MARKET | 120 Essex St

Stroll through this 50-year-old market and enjoy foods from 20 independent vendors. This will surely get your stomachs growling before dinner.

  • 10. WD-50 | 50 Clinton St

For dinner, stop by WD-50 for the Mediterranean bass or Wagyu chuck steak. Top it all off with some delicious liquid churros with coffee and hot chocolate. Reservations are required.
