REYNALD GILLAMAC's

Upper West Side

This is my New York

“I like to spend my days off exploring the different neighbourhoods of the city so I can share my unique finds with my guests. One of my favourite areas to explore is the Upper West Side.”

  • 1. NOUGATINE | 1 Central Park West

Nougatine is a casual French restaurant from world-renowned restaurateur Jean-Georges Vongerichten that's well known for its breakfast staples. Enjoy my personal favourite, French toast with caramelized apples, or the smoked salmon and cream cheese on a toasted bagel.

  • 2. MUSEUM OF ARTS AND DESIGN | 2 Columbus Circle #1

This museum focuses on contemporary artwork from artists all over the world. What makes these collections unique is that the artists use all types of materials and transform them into amazing pieces using highly stylized designs.

  • 3. CENTRAL PARK | From 59th to 110th Sts

Bordered by some of the most iconic architectural structures in Manhattan, including the Dakota and Century apartments, Central Park is the largest manmade patch of green in New York City.

  • 4. EPICERIE BOULUD | 1900 Broadway at 64th St

Chocolate lovers, treat your sweet tooth to the Gateau Chocolat-Caramel at Epicerie Boulud. It will go perfectly with your favourite coffee.

  • 5. THE HAYDEN PLANETARIUM OF EARTH AND SPACE | Central Park West & 79th St

This one-of-a-kind museum houses some of the most exciting exhibits and shows a space lover could ever imagine. Beyond Planet Earth and Journey to the Stars, focusing on the wonders of space exploration, are two of my favourites.

  • 6. THE AMERICAN MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY | 200 Central Park West

Enjoy many fun and mind-blowing exhibits at AMNH, including the Butterfly Conservatory and a new show called Creatures of Light: Nature’s Bioluminescence, which highlights a variety of organisms that glow in the dark.

  • 7. ZABAR’S | 2245 Broadway & 80th St

The best and most comprehensive gourmet food store you can find on the Upper West Side, Zabar’s is one of those places that must be experienced in person to be truly appreciated.

  • 8. SALUMERIA ROSI | 283 Amsterdam Ave. & 73rd St

I also do my shopping at Salumeria Rosi, a small neighbourhood salumi shop and restaurant that sells an ample variety of salumi, wine and other fine Italian produce.

  • 9. LINCOLN CENTER | 70 Lincoln Center Plaza

Lincoln Center offers world-class dining and entertainment. The New York City Ballet, the Metropolitan Opera House and more are all housed in this plaza. Lincoln Center is the perfect place for an evening of aural and visual pleasure.

  • 10. THE METROPOLITAN OPERA HOUSE | At Lincoln Center

I’ll end my day at the Metropolitan Opera House, which features incredible productions of operas from prolific composers such as Wagner, Puccini, Mozart, and Verdi and Bizet, to name a few.
