SoHo

This is My New York

"SoHo is a wonderful shopping destination and has the latest trends in beauty and fashion. On my days off, I love to explore all that this dynamic neighbourhood has to offer!"

  • 1. The Smile To Go | 22 Howard St.

Start the day with a coffee and the most delicious chocolate chip cookie ever – one that’s baked fresh in-house daily! The Smile opened this small to-go outpost with the hope of bringing L.A.-style takeout to New York, offering a daily-changing selection of salads, sandwiches, soups and baked goods.

  • 2. Laicale | 129 Grand St.

Next, I recommend heading to Laicale for the perfect salon service. The salon occupies a bright, industrial space that pops with a loud alternative soundtrack while maintaining a warm and obliging vibe. Its chic, quintessentially New York stylists and diverse clientele foster its unique personality and flavour. A house line of natural, animal-friendly shampoos, conditioners, masks and styling products enables customers to maintain the salon look effortlessly.

  • 3. Lafayette 148 SoHo Concept Store | 148 Lafayette St.

For a truly pampered shopping experience, head to the first Concept Store on the 8th floor of Lafayette 148’s headquarters. The store offers a private shopping experience with your own Personal Stylist and custom styles hand-picked for your wardrobe needs. Amenities include expert fittings, complimentary alterations and same day delivery back to the Hotel.

  • 4. Crosby Bar | 79 Crosby St.

After a morning of shopping, take refuge from the busy streets of NYC at the chic Crosby Bar & Terrace. Located inside the Crosby Street Hotel on a quiet cobblestone street in the heart of New York's vibrant SoHo neighbourhood, it offers modern American food in a uniquely eclectic setting with interior design by Kit Kemp. Open daily for breakfast lunch and dinner, the Crosby Bar & Terrace also features an extensive cocktail and wine menu, and my personal favourite, a classic English afternoon tea.

  • 5. Kartell | 39 Greene St.

Kartell has been aiming its charming European sensibility at necessities like chairs, tables and shelving since 1949. Virtually everything in the store is made from its famous synthetic polymer in a variety of durable forms — my personal favourites are their single-mold Louis XVI Ghost chairs by Philippe Starck.

  • 6. Taschen | 107 Greene St.

While in SoHo, popping into Benedikt Taschen’s New York flagship is a must. The decor of this bookstore is crafted to make people feel that they are welcome to sit and browse for as long as they wish. The company's stated mission has been to publish innovative, beautifully designed art books at competitive prices. The Icons series has several new volumes published a year, retailing around USD 10. Another popular series is their 'Basic Art' series, which ranges from artists such as Michelangelo to more contemporary artists such as Norman Rockwell.

  • 7. Dermalogica | 110 Grand St.

Pamper your skin at Dermalogica with a luxurious high performance treatment. The concept store offers complimentary “mapping” of the skin, examining each zone of one’s face with the aid of vanity mirrors and steamers to develop a personalised skin-care prescription.

  • 8. Raoul's | 180 Prince St.

This SoHo bistro was truly revolutionary when it opened in the mid-seventies and continues to be just as popular. Still run by the Alsatian Raoul brothers and their families, the chic bohemian atmosphere remains, along with simple and absolutely delicious French cuisine highlighting seafood.

  • 9. Jimmy | 15 Thompson St.

A lovely rooftop bar for cocktails, Jimmy is a contemporary interpretation of the classic pub. Curated by David Rabin and Johnny Swet, the atmosphere is intimate and refined year-round. In colder months, guests gravitate towards the inside freeform lounge area with plush seating. In warmer weather, the experience is ideal on the roof deck, where guests can enjoy chaise lounges and the beautiful pool with unparalleled city views.

  • 10. Blue Ribbon Brasserie | 97 Sullivan St.

This is the perfect go to for late night dining. Whether you are in the mood for a Burger and a Pint, Rack of Lamb and a bottle of Burgundy, or Oysters on the Half Shell and Champagne, Blue Ribbon Brasserie will welcome you until 4:00 am, seven nights a week. It's become a New York institution since 1992.
