The Sugar Adventure

Curepipe

Centrally located on the island of Mauritius, the town of Curepipe is an excellent shopping destination, with stores selling items including handmade ship models, duty-free jewellery and Asian handicrafts. Port Louis

Located in the northwest, Port Louis is the capital of Mauritius and the island's largest city, as well as its main port in the Indian Ocean.

Port Louis' major attractions include the Caudan Waterfront, Port Louis Bazaar, the old Port Louis theatre and the Mauritian Chinatown. Port Louis is also the home of the Mauritius Natural History Museum and the oldest and largest post office in Mauritius.

Stores in Port Louis are usually closed on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

Domaine de L'Etoile

Domain de L'Etoile's 6,000 hectares (14,800 acres) of mountainous landscape make up the best-preserved region of Mauritius. Enjoy the lush valleys, natural rivers and panoramic views of more than half the island. The domain is the habitat of several species of wild animals and is rich with indigenous plants and trees, including the most ancient ebony trees in Mauritius.

National History and Naval Relics Museum

Preserved as a national heritage site, this museum is located in Mahebourg on the bank of the La Chaux River. It houses objects recovered in 1933 and 1934 from the La Magicienne shipwreck.

Natural History Museum

Situated in the heart of Port Louis, the Natural History Museum is located on the ground floor of the Mauritius Institute building. Built in the early 1880s, this national treasure is the oldest museum in Mauritius and one of the oldest in southern Africa. It showcases the flora, fauna and birds of Mauritius and the Mascarene Islands.
