Fishing is the Maldivians' main occupation and livelihood. Expert fishermen, they use the pole-and-line method to catch all fish used for canning in Maldives, thus encouraging a sustainable, environmentally friendly fishing industry. At Felivaru Tuna Canning Factory, the only canning factory in the country, you can find out the "how and where" behind the cans of tuna in the supermarket. The factory produces 90,000 tonnes (99,000 tons) of canned tuna a year, distributed worldwide.
