Antique galleries

Galeria Perdana

The gallery houses an impressive collection of over 2,500 state gifts and awards presented to the former prime minister of Malaysia and his wife. Exhibits include fine artwork, crystalware and objects of wood, leather, silver, copper, pewter, ceramic and glass.

Craft Cultural Complex

Here, you will find a wide range of Malaysian handicrafts, including delicate, hand-drawn batik and intricately carved silverware. There are two museums within the grounds: the Heritage Museum, which displays historical and cultural artifacts that capture the rich diversity of the Langkawi people, legends and lore, and the Wedding Museum, which showcases traditional Malay wedding paraphernalia, costumes and accessories.

Gunung Raya Mountain

At 881 metres (2,890 feet), Gunung Raya is the tallest mountain in Langkawi. A trek from Lubuk Sembilang through the jungle – habitat of the regal hornbill – to its peak offers magnificent views of the islands of southern Thailand, Mat Cincang Mountain and Kuah Harbour.

Makam Mahsuri (Mahsuri’s Mausoleum)

This shrine is made from white marble and is surrounded by padi fields. It was erected in honour of a legendary 19th-century maiden who was unjustly accused of adultery. This attraction can also be enjoyed as part of the Langkawi Island tour.

Pasar malam (night markets)

At bustling night markets, known as pasar malam, everything from fresh vegetables to herbal remedies is sold. Held nightly at different locations on the island, these markets usually stay open until 10:00 pm, providing an absorbing nocturnal outing to experience the local lifestyle.

Pulau Dayang Bunting (Island of the Pregnant Maiden)

A 25-minute car ride from the Resort and a 30-minute boat ride from Kuah Jetty takes you to Pulau Dayang Bunting (the Island of the Pregnant Maiden), the archipelago’s second largest island. The island resembles a woman lying on her back, and its name stems from a legend that says the water of its lake promotes fertility in women who drink or swim in it. This attraction can also be enjoyed as part of the island boat cruise.

Underwater World Langkawi

Off the coast of Pantai Cenang village is Underwater World Langkawi, a marine showcase that features more than 5,000 types of marine life, both freshwater and saltwater plants and animals. One of the aquarium’s highlights is a giant tank housing large species such as sharks, stingrays, groupers and green turtles. Visitors may actually walk through the tank along a 15-metre (49-foot) glass tunnel.

Excursions

Cable car ride

At the end of Burau Bay, a cable car takes visitors high above the treetops to the summit of Gunung Mat Cincang for a panoramic view of Langkawi, neighbouring Kedah Province and far beyond, to southern Thailand. The mountain also offers hiking trails through the Gunung Mat Cincang Forest Reserve.

Penang

A 30-minute flight or approximately 2.5 hours by ferry, Penang offers history and heritage, with its old colonial houses, temples and museums. A lively melting pot of cultures, food, people and colour, it’s a food lover’s paradise where you may savour the intriguing taste of Nyonya cuisine – a marriage of flavours between Chinese and Malay cooking – and other gastronomic finds.

Some of the islands in the Langkawi archipelago are perfect for day excursions, picnics, snorkelling, nature walks or simply enjoying the sun. Island boat cruise

Explore the southern islands of the Langkawi archipelago by boat while learning about Pulau Dayang Bunting (the Island of the Pregnant Maiden) and its mystical lake. A 25-minute car ride from the Resort, the tour begins with a look at the harbour town of Kuah and its renowned eagle statue. Following a 30-minute cruise through the bay between the main islands, you will reach the Island of the Pregnant Maiden.

Once on the island, take a short walk up to the rim of the lake before descending the stairs to the water. You may choose to stop for a swim.

You will then continue by boat through additional islands in the area to see craggy peaks rising out of the sea, sheltering rare plants and magnificent eagles. Pause for a picnic lunch with a Four Seasons picnic basket before returning to the yacht club.

Langkawi Island tour

Tour Langkawi’s well-known attractions, landmarks and handicraft centres. Create your own itinerary of interesting places to visit as you uncover the legends and lore of Langkawi. A 25-minute drive takes you to the Telaga Tujuh (Seven Wells) waterfalls, believed to be a favourite bathing area for forest fairies. Or discover how this once sleepy village has now awakened from Mahsuri’s seven-generation curse at Makam Mahsuri, and then catch a glimpse of the lives of local Malays as well as unique kampung architecture on a visit to the Malay villages.

Pulau Payar Marine Park

After a 25-minute drive from the Resort to the Kuah Jetty, take a 45-minute boat ride to the Pulau Payar Marine Park. Considered one of the most beautiful marine parks in the region, Pulau Payar is surrounded by well-protected coral reefs that are home to numerous species of marine life and vegetation. A pristine environment, it offers plenty of opportunities for snorkelling, diving and swimming.

Pantai Cenang (Cenang Beach)

Pantai Cenang is centred on a 2-kilometre (1.2-mile) stretch of fine, powdery sand fringed by coconut trees and casuarinas. In the southwest corner of Langkawi, this lively beach community is lined with chalets, restaurants, shops and clubs. Visitors come here both by day and by night to experience Langkawi at its liveliest. Pantai Cenang is a centre for motorised water sports, from parasailing to jet skiing and knee boarding.

Pantai Kok (Kok Beach)

On the island’s western shores lies Pantai Kok, a powdery sand bay defined by forest-clad limestone hills. Perdana Quay, a small Mediterranean-style harbour town, is idyllic – quieter and more secluded than Pantai Cenang, with a 600-metre (1,969-foot) boardwalk dotted with stylish quayside bistros, restaurants, clubs and boutiques. The marina of Telaga Harbour Park is home to yachts and elegant sailboats.

Mangrove forest expedition to Kilim Nature Park

Depart by boat from the Resort for a guided mangrove tour to Kilim Nature Park with our naturalist. The park is an exciting wilderness of green mangrove wetlands, bat caves, isolated white beaches and blue lagoons. The tour is a leisurely way to explore the 100-square-kilometre (39-square-mile) park, which teems with wildlife, including monitor lizards up to 2 metres (6.6 feet) long, several kinds of eagles, iguanas and macaques.
