General information

Once known as the Pineapple Island for its fields of golden pineapples, the Hawaiian island of Lana'i is paradise come to life. The third smallest of the major islands and a 25-minute flight from Honolulu or Kahului, Lana'i offers a breathtaking expanse of cloud forests ringed by secluded white-sand beaches and rugged red lava cliffs. The island is approximately 13 miles (21 kilometres) wide and 18 miles (29 kilometres) long, with ground elevations varying from sea level to more than 3,400 feet (1,036 metres).

A place of deep cultural significance, Lana'i features many historical sites, old fishing villages and unique topographical attractions. Today, the island's only community is the quaint old plantation town of Lana'i City, with a full-time population of 3,200. It is located in the cool central region of the island.

Situated in the highlands, against an upcountry setting with dense forests offering exotic flora and magnificent vistas, Four Seasons Resort Lana'i, The Lodge at Koele shares in the mystic aura of Lana'i.

Seasonal highlights

May

May Day – In Hawaii, May Day (also known as Lei Day) is celebrated on the first day of May. A wonderful tradition of lei-making is one of the most beautiful festivities practised island-wide today. Representing the true spirit of Aloha, a lei is given to (or received from) a special someone.

July

Pineapple Festival – Each summer, Lana'i celebrates its unique heritage with the Pineapple Festival, a colourful event paying homage to the island’s favourite fruit. This festival brings the community and visitors together to enjoy local food, entertainment, fun and relaxation.

September - October

Aloha Festival – Honouring Hawaii’s heritage and culture for 59 years, Aloha Festivals celebrate with pageantry, parades, street parties, concerts and family activities that span six islands during September and October. This was created as a public festival to honour the cosmopolitan heritage of Hawaii through music, dance and history.

December

Christmas Festival and Tree Lighting Ceremony – A traditional fun-filled community event on the first week of December that is open to everyone. This special occasion brings everyone together to enjoy the lighting of an 80-foot (24-metre) Cook Island pine Christmas tree, picture taking with Santa, craft fairs, local foods and live entertainment. There is no better place to catch the Christmas spirit of the Islands.
