The accommodation at Four Seasons Hotel Firenze maintains the integrity of the original layout of both the Palazzo and the Conventino. As such, no two of the 117 rooms and suites are alike; each has individual dimensions and window-sizes and many have idiosyncratic original features including frescoes, friezes and bas-reliefs, skylights and ceiling art, staircases, fireplaces and stoves. Guestrooms have been designed by Pierre Yves Rochon in two colour schemes, yellow and green, with many of the restored speciality suites taking their identity from their individual historic and artistic details.
Room amenities have been custom-made by Lorenzo Villoresi, the first Italian Perfumer to win the Coty Prize. A student of ancient history and philosophy, Florence-based Villoresi uses the traditional skills of Renaissance alchemists to create fragrances from rare and exotic natural ingredients, such as the Chaulmoogra tree and Osmanthus and Mignonette flowers.
The Hotel offers many different room categories with almost a third of the accommodation arranged as suites. Some of the highlights include:
Noble, Gallery and Renaissance Suites – a total of 11 speciality suites, each offering distinctive historical art and features: highlights include the Volteranno Suite with vibrant 19th century paintings and Chinese silk wallpaper; the Stephenson Suite with fireplace, fresoes, portrait of George Stephenson and stuccoed bathroom with central marble bathtub; and the Scala Suite with ceiling fresco of angels and panelled ceiling in the bathroom.
La Villa – the Hotel’s secluded garden suite is also the perfect retreat for those seeking privacy. Housed in the former limonaria of the Conventino, La Villa has been converted in a modern and sophisticated style to include king bedroom, living room, bathroom and separate sunken whirlpool, overlooking a private terrace. Floor to ceiling windows flood the interior with light as well as maximising the view of the surrounding private garden, shaded by the towering trees of the Giardino della Gherardesca beyond.
Della Gherardesca Royal Suite – located on the ancient noble floor of the Palazzo. The centrepiece of the Suite is a long, vaulted reception gallery, with five large windows overlooking the Hotel’s park. The gallery has detailed frescoed ceiling and original 18th century Capodimonte ceramic floor by Ignazio Chiaiese. An additional, separate living room offers a more intimate space and leads onto the king bedroom, featuring parquet floor and frescoed ceiling depicting the Papal throne, surrounded by angels. The opulent bathing-lounge with central marble bathtub tells its own fascinating history: former office of the President of Strade Ferrate Meridionali, the walls are adorned by mechanical-themed bas-reliefs dating back to the early 1900s, featuring cogs, anvils and hammers. The Royal Suite also has a dining room with seating for 10, office and separate guest bathroom.
