The Perfect Sleep
Does a sleep away from home mean no sleep until you get back home? A recent survey from the Gallup Organization says the majority of Americans return from vacation more tired than before they left. Poor planning, later bedtimes and unfamiliar accommodations were cited as impediments to a good night's sleep.

Fighting a sleepless night is a battle that's easy to win at Four Seasons. From the comfortable, "home away from home" atmosphere, to round-the-clock service designed to meet every need, to the bed itself, Four Seasons helps guests master the art of slumber.

The Princess and the Pea

Not even a princess could feel a pea under the mattress of her Four Seasons bed. The Sealy mattresses found in all guest rooms around the world have been made specially for Four Seasons since 1984. King beds are built for comfort with 17 pounds of cotton on each side of the mattress, covering 775 wrapped coils. New bedding includes a three layer "pillow mattress." The mattresses are designed to act like the shock absorbers in a car - they absorb the pressure the body places on them, without giving in to it.

Of course, there's more to the "perfect sleep" than the mattress. Blackout curtains diffuse natural light so guests can sleep day or night; velcro closures on the curtains ensure that minimal light enters the room; at evening turndown service, room attendants dim the lighting, draw the curtains and leave fresh ice for a night cap - all to create a tranquil setting for a good night's sleep.

Take the Bed Home
After a stay at Four Seasons, getting some shut eye back at home may be more of a challenge. So The Ritz Carlton Chicago (the only Ritz Carlton property in the world that is a Four Seasons Hotel) invites guests to take the Four Seasons bed home. For guests who reserve a Lakeside Suite for two nights (from $950 per night) the hotel will deliver a Four Seasons signature King mattress to their home (value of $1,700). The "Take the Bed Home" promotion is valid until December 31, 2002.

A Lesson in Sleep
If the comfy bed, soft sheets and cozy duvet at Four Seasons aren't enough to bring on a deep sleep, Four Seasons Hotel Austin provides a tuturial on the subject. Deep Sleep 101 is a guidebook that provides practical solutions to sleeplessness. It includes a CD with soft music to lull the frequent traveler into a sweet state of slumber. The techniques for improving sleep in Deep Sleep 101 were developed by Dr. Gregg Jacobs, based on his 15 years of sleep research at Harvard Medical School.
