Beneath the city's downtown streets, the tunnel system spans 6.5 miles (10.5 kilometres). It features shops and restaurants, and provides comfortable access to the major downtown buildings as well as Four Seasons Hotel Houston.
A $122 million, 12-acre (4.8-hectare) urban park where visitors can enjoy signature park features, including a one-acre (0.4-hectare) lake, multi-use amphitheatre, interactive water fountain. Seasons programmes and events can also be enjoyed.
Located in the Houston Pavilions, the chain was founded in 1992 as a series of restaurants and music halls, featuring live music and southern-inspired cuisine.
Located behind the Hotel, it has become downtown's entertainment and retail hub, boasting tenants such as House of Blues, Lucky Strike bowling, Pete's Dueling Piano Bar and seven new restaurants.
George R. Brown Convention Center
Centrally located, Four Seasons Hotel Houston is the closest hotel to the city's George R. Brown Convention Center; corporate headquarters surround you. Ask the concierge about events at the convention centre.
Toyota Center
Home of the NBA's Houston Rockets, WNBA's Houston Comets and the IHL's Houston Aeros, the Toyota Center brings sports, music and family entertainment to downtown.
Alley Theater
The Tony award–winning theatre is one of America's oldest and most respected theatre companies. Presenting a diverse offering of classics and innovative new works, the Alley Theater has received national and international acclaim for its productions.
Hobby Center for the Performing Arts
The newly created Hobby Center for the Performing Arts is a spectacular performing arts complex, spanning 248,000 square feet (23,000 square metres) and including two theatres, Sarofim Hall and Zilka Hall. The ornate interior, modelled after a circa-1900 Broadway theatre, is meant to resemble a gazebo open to the Texas night sky.
Houston Ballet
Under the leadership of artistic director Stanton Welch, the company gives over 80 performances annually at its home theatre, Wortham Centre, and has toured nationally and internationally to overwhelming critical acclaim.
Houston Grand Opera
The fifth-largest opera company in the US, the company has a reputation for reaching out to new audiences. HGO tours extensively and is the only opera to win a Grammy, a Tony and an Emmy.
Houston Symphony
Founded in 1913, the symphony has an impressively rich history and is today counted among the world's finest orchestras. The symphony performs more than 200 concerts per year and regularly tours in the United States and abroad.
Minute Maid Park
Home of baseball's Houston Astros. Tours given daily at 10:00 am, noon, 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm.
Theater Under the Stars
The largest non-profit producer of musical theatre in America, averaging 200 performances annually. TUTS offers revivals of great Broadway classics, musical premieres and national and international tours, in addition to training for tomorrow's musical theatre artists. TUTS's new home is Sarofim Hall in the recently unveiled Hobby Center for the Performing Arts.
Downtown Aquarium
Eat, drink and play at this 7-acre (2.8-hectare) downtown aquatic adventure. The $36 million complex boasts 500,000 gallons (2,300,000 litres) of visible underwater tanks with more than 200 species of marine life. The Shark Voyage is a highlight: travel via train into an acrylic tunnel with live sharks swimming overhead. For an incredible view of the city, ride the 100-foot (30-metre) Diving Bell Ferris Wheel or go for a spin on the Aquatic Carousel. See educational exhibits of themed underwater environments.
Drive Houston's Theatre and Cultural District covers 16 blocks and includes Jones Hall, Alley Theatre, Wortham Centre, Tranquility Park, and the Hobby Centre for the Performing Arts. Downtown architectural tours are available.
Children's Museum of Houston
Children are encouraged to touch, discover and learn at the Children's Museum of Houston. There are exhibits on science and technology, history and world cultures, health and the arts.
Contemporary Arts Museum
An award-winning, all-metal structure that compliments the style of the art it displays. CAM offers a variety of exhibits every year in its two gallery spaces.
Holocaust Museum Houston
The first institution of its kind in the Southwest, the museum serves as a memorial to the millions of people who were imprisoned and killed in Nazi death camps during World War II.
Houston Museum of Natural Science
Contains the Wortham IMAX Theatre and a variety of natural science exhibits. The Cockrell Butterfly Centre houses thousands of butterflies in a high-tech tropical environment. Burke Baker Planetarium offers entertaining and educational shows on the solar system and the universe.
Museum of Fine Arts Houston
Housing an acclaimed permanent collection including the Bayou Bend Collection, the museum's American decorative arts assemblage housed in a 24-room mansion; the Glassel School of Art, offering art history classes for adults and children; and the Lillie and Hugh Roy Cullen Sculpture Garden, a landscaped setting for the museum's 19th- and 20th-century sculptures.
One of the leading museums in the country, MFAH recently opened the Audrey Jones Beck Building. The addition makes MFAH the sixth-largest museum in the country in terms of exhibition space.
The Theatre hosts cultural attractions in spring, summer and fall. Entertainment includes country, symphony, blues, ballet, jazz, dance, Shakespeare, bluegrass, opera and more.
Hermann Park
The site of the Kipp Aquarium, the Houston Zoological Gardens, a golf course, jogging trails and an amphitheatre. The park also features miniature train rides, picnic areas and children's playgrounds.
Houston Arboretum and Nature Center
Housing one of the largest collections of flora and fauna native to the Southwest, the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center offers walking trails and narrated tours.
Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo
Celebrating Texas' traditions as only Houston can – with size, sizzle and style. After 37 years in the world famous Astrodome, the world's largest rodeo moves to its spectacular new home at the the Reliant Stadium. Among the highlights are a rodeo competition; award-winning chili and other country fare; concerts each night by country-and-western, pop, rock and jazz superstars; and a Livestock Show featuring acres of animals raised by young farmers competing for scholarships. Late February to early March, annually.
Houston Zoo
Home to more than 4,500 animals belonging to over 900 species, including birds, reptiles, fish and marine animals. The 55-acre zoological park receives 1.5 million visitors each year.
Memorial Park
A completely lighted 3-mile (5-kilometre) jogging trail and five lighted playing fields, Memorial Park has herb gardens, a golf course and tennis courts.
Reliant Park
The stadium at Reliant Park features a natural grass field, the first retractable roof and the closest front-row seating in the NFL, and seats 69,500. Reliant Park is also home to local favourites the Houston Texans.
The Galleria
Considered one of the world's great retail centres, it has over 300 shops, including Neiman Marcus, Lord & Taylor, Tiffany & Co., Macy's, Nordstrom, Chanel, Gucci and Saks Fifth Avenue. The Galleria also has many restaurants and an ice skating rink.
The Menil Collection
The Collection houses art assembled by John and Dominique de Menil, covering prehistoric to modern times, including tribal art. The Menil has more than 15,000 paintings, sculptures, prints, drawings, photographs and rare books. Closed on major holidays.
Walk the deck of Battleship Texas, and the ship's history comes to life as if you were there in the middle of the action. The USS Texas is a lucky battleship. It survived World Wars I and II, was hit by enemy fire only twice and lost only one sailor. After Britain began building the first dreadnaughts in the late 1890s – a class of battleship designed to hold powerful guns – every large, arms-bearing nation followed suit. The United States was the last to build and the Texas is now the only remaining dreadnought in the world.
Gulf Greyhound Park
Evening races are held Tuesday through Sunday; matinees are held Friday, Saturday and Sunday. "Winning Wednesday" also features a 4:00 pm post time.
Sam Houston Race Park
The quarterhorse season spans June 30 through September 10, with races scheduled almost every weekend (Thursday through Sunday).
San Jacinto Battleground and Monument
A tribute to Texan independence, this towering tourist attraction commemorates the victorious battle against Mexico. The 570-foot (174-metre) San Jacinto Monument, 15 feet (5 metres) taller than the Washington Monument, is constructed of reinforced concrete faced with Texas fossilized limestone. Visitors can ride to the observation floor for dizzying views of the city and the Houston Ship Channel.
Space Center Houston
Observe Mission Control in action, watch astronauts in training, view IMAX movies, touch moon rocks and walk through the Sky Lab. Learn how astronauts eat, sleep and shower in space! See Concierge for details.
See space hardware such as an actual-size space shuttle and the Giant Saturn rocket. View movies that trace the history of space travel in the United States. Tour space labs and astronaut training facilities, as well as viewing live demonstrations on how to eat, sleep and shower in outer space. Van pick-ups are scheduled for 9:30 am daily at the Hotel for a 5-hour visit to the museum. Guests return to the Hotel by 5:00 pm. Please contact the Concierge to arrange tours.

George Ranch Historical Park
A 480-acre (194-hectare) outdoor living history museum interprets Texas history through four generations of a family that lived on the ranch for more than 150 years.
Katy Mills
Big, even for Texas, this outlet mall appeals to resident shoppers and tourists alike. Stores such as Banana Republic Factory, Pfaltzgraff, Marshall's, Brooks Brothers Factory Store, Off 5th, and Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World are featured. Kids can keep themselves busy at the rock climbing wall or at the 20-screen AMC theatre.
Kemah Boardwalk
Amusement complex of restaurants, shopping, games and live entertainment for the entire family.
Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark
Splash, soak and slide year round at Texas' first climate-controlled indoor and outdoor water park. The 70,000-square-foot park features more than a dozen water park attractions including a torrent tidal wave river, four enclosed tube slides, three speed slides, a man-made beach, hot tub and three different activity areas for kids.
Galveston Island
Fifty miles (80 kilometres) south of Houston, the popular island provides an oasis of beaches, shopping, restaurants and assorted tourist amusements. The over 30 miles (48 kilometres) of beaches have long been a draw, but with the revival of the historic Strand District and the addition of Moody Gardens with its aquarium, 3-D Imax theatre and rainforest pyramid, Galveston’s appeal has broadened. Mardi Gras and Dickens on the Strand are annual highlights, along with Spring Break festivities.
This tour travels 65 miles (105 kilometres) south of Houston to historic Galveston Island. The tour begins with a walk through The Rainforest at Moody Gardens. Next, depart on a driving tour of the famous Seawall, the Gulf of Mexico beaches, the Silk Stocking District and the Wharf area. Enjoy some free time in the Historic Strand District, where you can explore the Seaport Museum, Storm Theater, the Tall Ship "Ellisa", go shopping or tour Victorian mansions like the Moody Mansion. Bishop's Palace or Ashton Villa are available.

Moody Gardens
The natural beauty of Moody Gardens is home to the King Penguin exhibit, with 40 of our fine feathered friends. It is also home to the Discovery Museum, a 3D IMAX Ridefilm theatre, the Rainforest Pyramid, and the Aquarium.
City Tour
A three-hour tour beginning at the Astrodome and encompassing the Medical Centre, Rice University, the Museum District, the city centre, a view of the city from the 60th floor of Chase Tower, River Oaks and the Galleria including the Water Wall.
Extended City Tour
To view more of the city, take the Extended City Tour and see all the sites listed above as well as the USS Texas battleship and the San Jacinto Monument and museum where the Santa Ana surrendered to Sam Houston, guaranteeing Texas freedom.
