4:30 pm – The camp’s Land Rover arrives to transport the wedding party to Camp Peak.
4:45 pm – Arrival at Camp Peak with a welcome by baby elephants. The Camp Manager greets the bride and groom and leads them to the altar, where they take a seat in front of the village eldest.
5:00 pm – The ceremony begins as the village eldest bestows blessings on the couple, who kneel close together with their hands in the traditional wai position. To symbolise their new bond, white threads are tied to the wrists of the newlyweds, linking them together. (As an alternative, the couple may both be seated atop elephants during the vows.) The ceremony usually lasts for 30 minutes and evokes a feeling of peaceful, hypnotic serenity.
5:45 pm – Toast to the new couple, followed by an opportunity for photography.
7:00 pm – The Land Rover transports the couple to the camp’s Burma Bar, where staff then escort the wedding party to the Elephant Camp. In an outdoor setting decorated with white orchids, a fire-lit dinner culminates with the launching of traditional Thai lanterns into the night sky, carrying the guests’ best wishes closer to the heavens.
