Visiting the Mile-High City

When you are operating at this level, please keep in mind:

  • Dress in layers – Because Denver is closer to the sun, it can feel much warmer than the actual temperature during the daytime, but then become very chilly after sundown. It is best to layer your clothing.
  • Keep hydrated and moderate alcohol consumption – In Denver's rarified air, golf balls go ten percent farther… and so do cocktails!
  • Eat foods high in potassium – Foods such as broccoli, bananas, avocado, cantaloupe, celery, greens, bran, chocolate, granola, dates, dried fruit, potatoes and tomatoes will help you replenish electrolytes by balancing salt intake.

Denver is an incredibly unique and diverse city.

Did you know…

  • Denver really is exactly one mile high. In fact, there is a step on the State Capitol Building that is exactly 5,280 feet above sea level – one mile high.
  • Colorado is the only state in history, to turn down the Olympics. In 1976 the Winter Olympics were planned to be held in Denver. 62% of all state Voters choose at almost the last minute not to host the Olympics, because of the cost, pollution and population boom it would have on the State Of Colorado, and the City of Denver.
  • Denver lays claim to the invention of the cheeseburger. The trademark for the name Cheeseburger was awarded in 1935 to Louis Ballast.
