Old Damascus’s New Art
The art scene is booming in Damascus. On any given week, new galleries, art bars and ateliers pop up throughout the old and new city. In an effort to demonstrate its commitment to nurturing the local art scene, the Hotel has partnered with the Ayyam Gallery, a respected, blue-chip art dealer in Damascus. Every few months the Hotel works with the gallery showcasing new works of art that switch out every three to fourth months. Four Seasons Hotel Damascus's walls have quickly become a de facto gallery where curators and art aficionados gather –and all of the artwork is available for purchase.
Of course, in addition to the contemporary art scene, Damascus has been heralded since the seventh century for its traditional craftsmanship, like mosaics. Throughout Four Seasons Hotel Damascus, you'll find beautiful, elaborate mosaics, be it in the bathroom sinks or grand lobby. Many of the mosaics reflect the influences of what's called Islamic style, which spans several centuries and traditions, including Byzantine, Chinese, and Sassanian styles.
Four Seasons Hotel Damascus is proud of the work being done right in our backyard, and we are thrilled to provide a window into both traditional and the modern Syrian art scene to natives and visitors alike.
