General information

Damascus, Syria’s capital, claims to be the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world. Once the centre of an empire stretching from the Atlantic coast to central Asia, Damascus is rich with ancient sites, evidence of the many peoples who have lived here throughout history. It is a living museum, with fascinating mosques, souks (markets) and ruins, yet it also lives to a modern beat. Always a crossroads, Damascus today has an active business community, sophisticated shopping, splendid restaurants and a genuine attitude of welcome.
