During the Gold Season, from November to May, there is virtually no rainfall, and many trees lose their foliage, creating a landscape of golden-brown hues. Temperatures during this season are a comfortable 29ºC (84ºF), with very little humidity. The Gold Season offers plenty of sunshine and lasts several weeks longer than in other regions of Costa Rica.

The months between May and November produce lush tropical gardens, and are described by Costa Ricans as the Green Season. With an average temperature of 27ºC (81ºF), the Green Season typically features sunny mornings followed by potential rain showers in the late afternoon. However, during mid-July, a break in the Green Season, called "El Veranillo," occurs, and the region experiences a few weeks of dry conditions.

Daily weather patterns in Guanacaste are generally predictable, with rain occurring more frequently during September and October than during other months, making it easy to plan an itinerary all year round. The northwest Pacific coastline does not experience hurricanes.
