Resort activitiesThe Resort offers a full schedule of classes and activities. Ask the Concierge for details. Trail of GiantsThis guided tour through the tropical dry forest surrounding the golf course is certified by the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. The forest is home to endangered birds, monkeys, iguanas, butterflies and over 25 species of giant tree. Learn about the exotic flora and fauna of Costa Rica while enjoying the lush forests and awe-inspiring panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean. Along the cart path of the front nine holes, trees have been labelled with their common and scientific names. Some are tropical dry forest giants, while others are of economic and cultural importance. The giants have been preserved and protected, along with large tracts of mature forest. We are also planting native species like mahogany and rosewood for future generations. Guanacaste boasts some of the world's most spectacular tropical dry forest trees. Once covering the majority of Guanacaste, the forests were dramatically reduced in the last 200 years, first by lumbering that targeted the giant hardwoods, and later from extensive clearing with the expansion of agriculture. Reforestation and forest regeneration projects in the last 30 years have produced dramatic increases in tree cover, but there is much still to be done to protect existing tropical dry forest communities as population and development increase. Golf courses can be important sanctuaries and vegetative corridors not only for wildlife, but also for important tree species. Four Seasons has developed the Trail of the Giants to introduce guests to some of our most important and interesting trees. The new trees planted on the course will become the giants of the future. The trees on and around the course offer a habitat for wildlife, including colourful birds and insects, and support a diverse plant community. White-faced and howler monkeys make the course their home, treating golfers to their playful antics. HikingProviding a convenient opportunity to witness nature in the Costa Rican forest, the Resort offers its own hiking trail. The route extends approximately 1 kilometres (0.6 miles) from the beach on one side of the Peninsula up the hillside and down to the beach on the other side. The stairs and pathways are well-maintained and prove an exerting challenge for hikers. Join us for an invigorating, high-impact nature or sunset hike through the trails around the Resort. The Resort also offers Walk Fit, a vigorous walk along the roads of the Papagayo Peninsula. Turtle viewingThe Resort's protected shoreline provides nesting sites for rare sea turtles. On evenings from October to February, watch for the leatherback turtle and the giant baula as they lumbering up the sandy beaches to lay their eggs.
