My Four Seasons

Ice Escapades

While the imposing presence of Whistler-Blackcomb commands the world’s attention, it’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to memorable experiences in British Columbia. As Chef Concierge Hana Lynn and her team will tell you, even the nearby glaciers hold creative possibilities simply unmatched by other locales.

With ice axe and rope in hand, negotiate your way up a glacier for a gourmet picnic lunch and epic views. Or, fly by helicopter to the top of a glacier and practice your golf swing with a bucket of biodegradable golf balls. If you’re recently engaged, consider exchanging vows in a glacial setting. And if it’s the summertime, grab suntan lotion and your ski or snowboard gear, and go careening down the Horstman Glacier.

Lynn and the entire Concierge desk at Whistler enjoy astonishing thrill-seeking guests with ideas for glacial-themed adventures. Sometimes, it’s Lynn’s guests that surprise her. One couple returned from a glacier tour carrying a large box with a souvenir of their trip: a magnificent block of ice. They turned to Lynn for help with shipping it to South Carolina.

Lynn instantly went to work, packing the memento in a right-sized freezer box with dry ice. To further prevent melting, Lynn made sure Four Seasons was the courier’s last stop before heading to Vancouver. The freezer box was shipped by air, and the guest called two days later to report the glacial chunk had arrived in perfect condition.

“Definitely my most challenging request to date, but also the most thrilling,” says Lynn.
